Sleep tight lil' soldier

I stood on top of the RV watching the forest. I had a sniper rifle with a silencer on it in case a walker comes by. Everyone was down on the ground eating fish that Andrea and her sister caught. I hear rustling and moans shit and it sounds like a lot. I let out a low bird whistle Carl and Sophia's heads snapped up. I turn back and start sniping the walkers about a good 7 walkers. Not letting any pass the tree line until I heard a low whistle back. I look back and saw Lori taking Shane into a tent. Rick took Sophia and Carl good they're safe. I got down and about twelve walkers came into the camp. Everyone was in their tents and a few were in trees. I see Merle with his silenced sniper and Daryl in a tree with his cross bow raised. I settled my sniper so that I got a shot at four walkers. I let out a whistle letting the silent bullets and  arrows fly. Shooting the last one I stand people came out of their tents and the RV. I smile sighing.

"Hunter," I turn and see Shane on the ladder," switch," he says not looking me in the eyes. I nod he gets up to the RV and takes the sniper. I climb down and was hugged by Carl and Sophia.

"Hi there little rangers," I say laughing.

"Hey De?" Sophia says looking up at me," Do we have nicknames?"

"As in?"

"Like secret code names!" Carl says excited.

     I think for a moment," well..I have ta get Merle, Daryl and Rick," The two kids cheer before running back to the fire. I walk to the picnic table and watch everyone. I couldn't help but smile. I got a family now one I have been wanting for a long time now. I have Carol who Is like my mom, Merle who's like a uncle to me, Daryl and Rick are those annoying older siblings and the kids are like my young siblings. I look over at Shane who seemed upset. He's my big brother no matter what I won't tell him that out loud though. After what he said no I'm not. But he was the first person to act like he gave a damn so I still care about him like I did before. I hear foot steps look up and see Lori standing there.

"Yes?"

      Lori stared at me," look I just wanted to tell you that Carl will
No longer be attending your training," she crosses her arms looking smug," he has me and the rest of camp to help take care of
Him, but I also want you to stay away from him,"

"Why?" I ask my anger coming out for the pathetic excuse of a mother," I understand if ya don't want me training him but why the fuck don't ya want me 'round him? Huh? So ya can turn him on me like ya did Shane?"

"You're still hung up over that?" Lori says sighing.

" why can't I be around Carl?" I growl.

"Because your just going to turn him against me like you did Shane!" Lori said.

"oh for fuck sakes lady ya were just using him for SEX!"

"And you weren't?"

"No! Unlike you I actually give a damn!" I almost yelled," listen lady ya haven't given Carl any fuckin' attention ya haven't protected him like ya were suppose ta-"

"Excuse me I have!" Lori says "offended"

"BULLSHIT!" I exclaim "if it weren't fer Walsh ya would've killed the poor kid! If it were fer me training him how to fight Ed would've hurt him! In the attack ya grabbed Walsh and not Carl!" I growled.

"His father had him!"

"If I was his mother I wouldn't give a damn who he was with I would want my boy by me!" I exclaimed," are ya that stupid of a mother or just fuckin' lazy?"

"I'm still going to training," we hear a voice say confidently and defiantly. I look and see Carl standing the glaring at his mom," and I'm still going talk and see Delilah, Lori,"

Lori gasp" young man I am your-"

"Nothing your nothing to me!" He growls "you cheated on dad, you were splitting our family apart!" He growls tears streaming down his face," You hurt me and you her dad! It's been like that since I was 8 Lori!"

"Carl-"

"De. I need to get this off my chest please?" Carl asked his gaze at me softened a little.

"Alright," I say. The kid has something to say I won't stop him.

He looks back at his mom," no you didn't protect me. Shane and Delilah protected me you ran. You act like you care about me but you don't! Now you're trying to take me away from Delilah? Like you took Shane? Like you almost took dad? No. You," he points at a crying Lori," stay away from me don't talk to me, don't touch or hug me! You lost all rights to me!"

Everyone was silent some of the woman were holding their hands over their mouths. The men looked surprised especially the two use to be best friends. Carl was dry heaving I moved so I could get to him I picked him up and hugged him.

"Ya chose a man over your own child Lori," I say calmly looking at the crying woman. I look at Rick," do you want me ta stay away from Carl? If ya do I will,"

      Rick shakes his head,"no. Delilah can ya take Carl to my tent?" I nodded and walked away from the gathered group.

"I'm sorry," he says "I'm sorry," he says his sobs getting harder.

"For what Scout?" I say using the nickname I was going to give him.

"T-that," he says I get to Ricks tent and walk in.

"I thought ya did amazin'," I say putting him on the air mattress.

"R-really?"

"If anyone can get ta her then it's ya," I say. I watch him lay down he must be tired.

"Can ya stay with me?" I nod to the little boy. I crawl next to him and bring him close to me.

"Scout."

"Hm?" Carl says.

"Your names scout," I say. I feel him smile before his breathing evens out the boy fell asleep. I kiss the side of the the boys head and rose after a good 30 minutes. "Sleep tight lil soldier," I whisper walking out of the tent.
