My reflection stares back at me in the car window — hair deliberately messy in that I-totally-didn't-try kind of way, jeans hanging loose at the hips, mascara brushed just enough to make my eyes look awake. I spent twenty six minutes doing this. Twenty. Six. For a man who probably thinks "effort" is an evolutionary weakness.
I check the clock on my phone. 8:47. He'll be out any minute.
