Today I decided to tell Calum that I've writing about us since the first day we met.
"Why would you do that?" He asked me.
"Because, I guess I knew you were going to be something to me." I replied.
He grabbed my hand and started playing with my fingers. He raised our joined hands up to the sun and looked at their silhouettes.
"I love you so much." He said looking back at me. "Maybe even to much." He laughed a little.
"I love you too." I linked my pinky finger around his and held on tight.
"Anna? I have a question for you." He sounded serious all of a sudden.
"What's up?" He sat up off the grass and pulled me with him.
"Anna. In the past three years I've learned so much about you. I learned that you hate going on dates because they are too stressful. And that your ideal date would be just laying in your bed talking. I learned that you love Ramen like Michael loves pizza. And that you love when I run my hands through your hair. I learned that you get scared when I get to close. Because you don't want to get hurt again. I learned that you could sleep through almost anything. And that cat videos make you happy. I learned that you love to read even though you've read all your books at least a thousand times." He paused and looked up from our hands to my eyes. Then he continued. "I love the sound of your laugh. I love the way you curl up when you sleep. Its like you're waiting for someone to wrap their arms around you. I love how you don't care when you eat Ramen. You just shovel it in your mouth because there's no other way to eat it. I love how when you read a book you've already read, you still look as if its the first time. I also love your impatience. And I love the way you say my name. And how our hands fit perfectly together. And how your lips feel against mine." He stopped and just looked at me. "And I'm pretty sure we are doing this all back wards but who cares right?" He looked back down at our hands then slowly back up at me. "I love you." He whispered. "I love you. And I want you. I want to be able to call you mine."
Tears filled my eyes when I realized he said the exact words he said to me when he asked me to be his girlfriend.
"How?" I asked him. "How did you remember that?" He shrugged sheepishly. He stood up and pulled me with him. He leaned in and kissed me hard before kneeling down on one knee.
"Anna Louis. Last time I gave you that speech, I asked you to be my girlfriend. We were doing everything backwards then and we are still doing everything backwards now. But I don't care. Because I love you and want to spend my life with you. I memorized that speech because I realized as I was giving it that I wanted to spend my life with you. So," He paused and pulled a box from his pocket, "Anna Louis, will you marry me?"
The thought to run came across my mind. But I didn't. I stayed there and told him yes. A big smile spread across his face as he slid the ring on my finger. I leaned over and kissed him with more love then ever before. And as he threw me down to the grass, he said,
"I'm still yours."
