Today, I told Calum a story.
"Why did you run?" Calum asked me. We had been sitting on my bed in silence for a half hour now.
Instead of answering him, I took a deep breath. So he asked again.
"Anna. Why did you run?" He was looking at me now. I could feel his stare burning a hole through my head.
After a minute, I still hadn't answered. So he asked again. More forcefully this time.
"Anna." The firmness in his voice made me finally look at him. "Why did you run." After another minute, he added, "Answer me Anna."
So I told him a story.
I told him a story of a boy named James Tyler and a girl named Anna Louis. I told him a story of how they first met and how they slowly fell for each other. I told him the story of their six year relationship. I told him the whole story. Right up until the last look he gave her before walking out the door.
When I finished, I looked at Calum for the first time since I started the story. The expression on his face was unreadable.
After a moment of silence, he finally spoke.
"Well shit. I can't compete with that." He said and gave a breathy laugh.
