Today, the impossible happened. I woke up on time. Crazy, I know. But I guess I was just excited. Like, I get to do an awesome job in an awesome office with awesome people!
I hopped in the shower, taking my time since Alex wasn't picking me up for another 2 hours. Showers always took super long for me, and almost always made me late. Although today I managed to finish in time to get everything I needed done.
I slipped on a pair of leggings and my Stunt Lads t-shirt then pulled a jacket on over it considering the cold-ass weather that awaited me outside. I hope they didn't expect me to go all business casual, because I was dressed in Saturday morning "just woke up" attire, if you get me.
I made a quick breakfast out of leftover takeout from my IKEA party with Alex last night. Chinese is always better the day after. I checked Twitter and a few other sites while I ate before I got a text from Alex.
A: Just left my flat; be there in 10. You ready?
I: Born ready. Crazy excited. :P
A: Good. Talk in a sec!
It wasn't long before he told me to get my ass downstairs. I lugged a medium-sized backpack on my shoulder with my laptop, decorations, and various equipment I needed on a daily basis.
I rushed over to his car and shivered as I closed the door.
"Nice choice of clothing," he commented, gesturing to my shirt.
I laughed. "Thanks. Thought I might as well wear my favorite merchandise for my first day."
The drive was a bit awkward. Just small talk and him laying out everything that was going down today.
"So, uh, today we'll probably just get all your basics set up- like your desk, computer, mic, all that jazz," he explained. "It'll probably take a while, but Turps is gonna help you out today."
Turps was the one who had set everything up for me; he'd helped me find an apartment, helped me book flights, and even sent me reminders of everything to pack. He really didn't seem like the responsible type, but without his instructions, I probably wouldn't be in Bristol right now.
"That's great!" I said enthusiastically. "I can't wait to actually meet him face to face."
"Don't worry, he's excited to meet you too," Alex confirmed with a smile. He parked suddenly in front of an office building and unbuckled his seat belt. "You coming?"
I repeated his action. "Yeah, yeah, sorry." I stepped out of the car and zipped up my jacket as we walked to the front doors. There was a lady behind a desk, which I assumed was reception for a shared office building.
"Morning, Alex," she greeted.
"G'morning, Lila," he responded.
"Who's this lovely lady?" Lila asked, looking towards me.
"Remember the new girl I was telling you about?"
"Oh, this is Io!" she realized excitedly. "So glad to meet you darling! Alex hasn't stopped talking about you ever since he figured out you were joining."
I blushed at that. "It's nice to meet you too. It's been a pretty hectic weekend, but I'm glad I can finally get to work."
She smiled. "Well, I'll let you two get going. Guess you need to get your office set up! Have fun!"
Alex and I waved at her as we stepped into the elevator. "You haven't stopped talking about me?" I teased.
"Lila can.. exaggerate a bit, but yeah, of course. I was excited for you to be here."
