The Way Things Should Be

This chapter was going to be longer, but I've been working from my laptop because i'm letting my cousin use my tablet and the keyboard is acting like its on crack or something so I made this a short one. "TWINS?! HOW'D LAWRENCE MISS ANOTHER BABY BEING IN THERE?" Noah asks, reaching for my babies. I cant wait to sit down. My back is starting to hurt like crazy. Lawrence thought that I should walk more so Noah and dad are taking turns to make my life miserable.

"He's been hiding behind her. He's smaller than she is, so it's a little hard to see....Oh I can feel my legs slowly giving out. Can we stop please?" I beg, slowing down far behind Noah, who seems very fit despite his growing cancer.

"Yeah...Lets rest a bit...You know Melinda. Just between you and me...I probably wont make it to your due date-"

"Did Lawrence tell you that?"

"He says I'll make it to the end of January." Noah smiles, placing a hand on my babies. Noah cant just leave me dammit! He cant leave this pack. He has a right to see his grandkids and he will.

"Sometimes they're predictions aren't correct. I could go into labor early! Most women don't last the full 9 months, and if I do...I'll have Lawrence to induce labor."

"Don't. I've lived my life. Life owes me nothing Melinda. I've made peace with myself, all I want is to see my grandchildren once then I'm off to see Niko's mom. I've been waiting a long time Mel." Noah smiles, reminiscing about Lindsey.

"Noah...You were my mom's mate...Why did you cheat on her? Didn't you love her? Didn't you care about the way she would react?"

"Of course I did Melinda. Your mother meant everything to me, I was young, dumb and had girls flocking over me. I didn't think she'd leave! We were meant for each other." Noah frowned, lowering his head. I know this is uncomfortable for him to talk about, but maybe the same reason why Niko cheated on me is the same reason Noah cheated on my mom.

"I feel like he still thinks its my fault he cheated...You've known him longer than I have. Enlighten me." I grin, looking down to my very huge stomach. I cant wait to meet them. I already have their names picked out and everything.

"I may have known him longer, but you know him better than he knows himself-that's what I think anyway. I honestly don't have any idea. I just hope he treats you right from now on. If you have another break up-make up episode, I'm going to break his legs .You're an amazing girl Mel. You'll be an even better mom, just wait and see." Noah pats my shoulder. I have to admit that he is making me feel a hell of a lot better. Even though he's dancing around my questions like a Mexican hat dance. These Carter boys are so damn charming.

"We should get going. You're dad will shit bricks if were late, like I cant protect you. I'm still 200 pounds of pure muscle." Noah jokes, flexing his arms. Not going to lie, he's very fit for a sick man. I frown as Noah helps me up from my sitting position. I wasn't done resting yet!

"Hello Love. How was your walk? I'm sorry that I couldn't walk with you. I've got so many things to do before I become alpha. I have to make sure everything is in line for me." Niko kisses my cheek. He takes me by my hand, getting me to the car.

"Shall I take you home?" Niko smiles, leaning me against the car. He leans in to kiss me powerfully- passionately. Wow, Did I mention how much I missed this? I take his bottom lip between my teeth and pull gently, soliciting a moan from Niko.

"Actually. I wouldn't mind sleeping over tonight, but you're cooking because i'm starving." I grin, rubbing my tummy. Niko's hand cover mind as he stare at them together. I really hope that Niko and I stay together at lease until the twins get on their own. Mates mean absolutely nothing if you cant stay faithful to them. Just look at Rex and Kayley. If anything. She fell into her fathers footsteps just like Niko did. This whole family is cray-cray.

"I think they're sleeping." I smile, glancing over at Niko. Niko's smiles goes wider. Maybe this is it! Maybe, just maybe this is when we really start a family for sure. Niko pulls me into his arms as we gaze up at the stars. They were really beautiful. I can stare at them all night. A yawn escapes my lips as I bury my face further into his chest. He's so warm!

"I feel so bad. I had plans for me and you to travel the world before we had kids...did you know that? I've always wanted to go to England and try their fish and chips." Niko chuckles, pulling me even closer. I didn't know Niko had dreams other than being alpha. He never really talked about traveling. I'd love to travel.

"I always wanted to be a vet. I used to love animals."

"What happened?" Niko asked, turning me so that my back was against his front as we stared into the sky. Something about tonight, just i don't know- seem to bring us close.

"I met my soulmate and I made him my everything. Then he hurt me and I felt like i'd lost everything." I reply, my heart pounding in anticipation for what he's going to say next,

"Your soulmate is a pretty stupid guy, but he can promise you that he'll never do it again. Nothing matters anymore but you and my babies. Not even this pack baby."
