The Month Later

Wow. I don't remember falling asleep. I also don't remember getting into Amaya's bed. I hear the heavy tapping of shoes against wood. Its getting closer and closer- making my head pound.

"Melinda, wake up sweetie." Alpha Noah mutters. What in the hell is he doing here? Where is his dead beat, sorry excuse for a husband of a son? I turn over, not wanting to look at Alpha Noah. He looked exactly like Niko.

"Where's my father?" I say with acid in my voice. I know Alpha Noah heard it, but I guess he ignored it. He takes a deep breath.

"He got an emergency call from work. He'll be here soon....Melinda, I'm so sorry that Niko did this to you. You of all people don't deserve this....Here." Alpha Noah muttered, handing me a piece of paper.

"I'm paying for the annulment. There's no reason you and baby should suffer this. Melinda, Niko cares about you. He really does-it was all a drunken mistake. He's under a lot of pressure, you both are....He just needs time to get his life back on track. He'll be crawling back to you." Alpha Noah grins.

"With all do respect, I'm not safe here. I think its time for me to join a different pack. I'll always love him Noah, but I meant it when I said it was over. My baby needs me. Its not about him anymore."

"I can respect that Melinda, But this baby should be around family. The baby should stay in this pack."

Mr. Lawrence bursts in. He obviously didn't want Alpha Noah in here. Alpha Noah didn't fight. He got up and left without another word. I didn't notice Mr. Lawrence give Alpha Noah a dirty look. Trin made his way into the room, with a sonogram machine. I don't think I could handle it if I had a miscarriage.

"We've been checking every 6 hours. The baby's looking a lot better... Its definitely a fighter." Trin grins, checking my pulse. Mr. Lawrence rubs on the cold gel on my tummy. I hear the little heartbeat automatically. It seemed a lot fainter than it did yesterday. That worried me.

"The heart beat is fainter than usual, but it should pick back up once you stop stressing-and start eating. Which reminds me! Amaya made breakfast." Trin smiles as he leaves the room, leaving Lawrence and I alone.

"You have to be more careful Melinda. This baby may be strong, but its fragile. I don't want you near Niko. I don't need something like this to ever happen again. Next time you may not be so lucky."

"Thank you for saving my baby. I'd be in jail for murder if I lost him-or her."

"Bon appetite Madam and bebe." Trin says, playing around with his horrible french voice. Lawrence and Trin left out of Amaya's room, but Rex came right in after him.

"Hey Melinda, how's little Mel doing?" Rex grins, rubbing my tummy. Rex and I have been sorta close since the whole Kayley fucked Reese thing last year. He comforted me then, and he's going the same now. I'm lucky for him. Hah, How come I didnt trust him before?

"Fantastic! How's you're hand? That was hell of a punch." I say, reaching for his hand. Rex shakes it off. I could see how swollen it was.

"I'll live...Do you know why Niko did this to you? You don't have to answer! I don't want to stress you out. Just trust me Melinda. He's going to pay. Mike and I are going to make sure of it." Rex chuckles. I'm glad the pack cares so much, but this is between Niko, Codie and I. I never wanted this to result in violence-well that's a lie. I'm going to fuck Codie up.

"Rex-" I start, but Rex cuts me off.

"You're not talking me out of this. When Reese cheated on you. Niko beat his ass up and down the pack house. Somebody needs to do the same thing with Niko. I'm going to mop my floor with his face." Rex replies with a very serious look on his face. There's no doubt he's going to kick Niko's ass, but I don't want him to. I just want to leave Arizona with my baby.

I looked down at my cold food. I hadn't even touched it. And now I didn't even want it. Rex takes my plate away. I guess he read my mind, because he came back with lunch. Rex kisses my forehead as he starts to leave

"I'm going to go now. I don't want to ruin your lunch." Rex says exiting the door.

"Are you cramping? Should I call Lawrence?" My dad says as he puts the grocery bags into the car. Oh god he's been hovering over me since Niko and I broke up a month ago. I've gained weight. The baby's fine and I haven't talked to or seen Niko since the whole thing. I'm pretty sure Alpha Noah is keeping him away.

"I'm fine dad. The baby's fine. Everything's fine. Its just a little contraction they're normal." Well, that's what Lawrence says. Braxton Hick contractions shouldn't start until your 28 weeks, but I guess wolf babies are different.

"We should probably get you to Mr. Lawrence, you're going to be late to your appointment. You've gotten so big."

"I'm only 15 weeks! I'm not that big dad." I pout. My dad and I had gotten close since I got back. Things were finally getting back to the way they should be, with me and my daddy against the world.

"Are you ready to know the sex of the baby?" Lawrence smiles, moving the wand around my belly. Oh my gosh could I? Oh god. I get to know what I'm having! My dad takes my hand and smiles. His face is lighting up. I think he knows!!!!!! My heart is nearly beating out of my chest. Is it a girl? Boy? What would I name it? Lawrence's eyebrows are raised in excitement. Its been 4 months since June 15th (the day I conceived my baby). I'm looking forward to knowing.

"Yes! Just tell me already before I start hyper ventilating!" I laugh, looking at the baby's head on the screen. My dad and Lawrence laugh at the same time.

"Would you like to at least guess?" Lawrence questions.

"I don't think I can. Mr. Lawrence in dying here! Just tell me."

"Okay, don't bite my head off!" he pauses.

"Okay Melinda, let's take a look....Oh, I got a perfect position...are you ready?"

"Yesss!" I say annoyed. My dad holds my hand tighter as he takes a deep breath. I bite my lip in anticipation. My dad does a little drum role. I think he and Lawrence are messing with me!

"Congradulations Melinda, its a baby girl."

Oh My God. I'm having a girl! Oh god I can't believe I'm crying! My dad is hugging me and Lawrence is watching my expression. Its like time just stopped. I'M HAVING A LITTLE BABY GIRL! I can't wait to tell Rex and Amaya! I'm so excited. Nothing can bring me down. Well, accept Niko. Everything went dead silent as he walked in. He stood in the door way for a while-staring at me. I didn't know what to say, so I said the only thing I could at the time.

"...I'm having a girl." I murmur. Niko's body goes tense. Then relaxes. I thought he was about to leave, but he didn't. In fact he walked closer to me. He didn't hesitate as he rammed his lips into mine. I started feeling things I haven't felt in months! The shocks were back, sending aches down my body. Lord knows I should resist him! The attraction is just so strong! I want to fight, to throw him off me and out of my room. I can't. I missed his lips, his kisses!

Please god give me the strength to resist him. Not for me, but for my daughter.
