Chapter Fifteen

As I ran down the street, I heard a gunshot going off. I stopped and squatted down. I looked around to see if anyone saw anything. Or if anyone was shot. Nothing. So I ran some more. As soon as I got to the corner, I saw Khaleed's car. He was sitting in the car with Bibby, Durk, and Herb. First I ran and got Kaapro out of the neighbor's porch. (I know them very well) Then I ran to the car and knocked on the window. I they all pulled out their guns and pointed it at me. 

"It's me Kayla. And Kaapro." I said. They all looked at me then lowered their guns. Khaleed got out the car and looked around. I guess looking to see if Melvin was around. He wasn't. Then he hugged me and Kaapro. I heard the doors of Khaleed's car opening and closing. Herb and them surrounded us. Their guns were still out. 

"I thought we would've lost y'all forever." Khaleed said. He let me go. "I missed you..." he said looking at Kaapro. He took him from out of my arms. Then he kissed him on his forehead. 

"Yeah. After Melvin.." I mumbled. I didn't want to say the last part.

"I already heard about it." Khaleed said. "How'd y'all leave?"

I sighed. Thinking about Megan. "Melvin handed me Kaapro and told me to leave. So I left. I thought it was out of pity, but he wanted to make me see Megan and Don. How long has that been going on?" I asked.
"Your best friend?" 

"We're not best friends.... Did y'all know that this was happening?"

 "No." 

"Are you sure?" I asked.

"Yes Kayla." he said. 

I sighed. "Well he was with her." 

"Are you sure?" I stared at Khaleed. "I'll take that as a yes." 

"I can't believe he did that to me. This is crazy af." I paced back and forth causing Bibby to walk with me. 

"Can you stand still?"he asked.

"I have a question to ask... would you cheat on a girl if you told her you love her?" I asked. They all looked at me. 

"I wouldn't because I would never tell a b!tch that I love her." Herb said. 

"Ok let me rephrase that. If you really cared about a girl, would you go and  f*ck another girl. Or multiple girls?"

"So you're telling me, Don told you that he loved you? And he said he cared for you?"

I nodded. 

Khaleed looked at me. "No. I wouldn't do that to a girl. I don't like hurting people.." I stared at him. "Let me rephrase that, I don't like hurting people emotionally." 

I looked at Durk and them. 

"I wouldn't do that. I don't like hurting women."  Durk said.

"I don't know. I never told a woman that or ever felt like that. Except for my mother." Bibby said.

"Ok then." 

"Well if Don told you that stuff, I don't think that Don would break something he said.He's a lover. yeah he's a fighter too but not that bad. He doesn't fight all the time. I think he was set up." Herb said.

I stared at him. "You know you're the most randomest n!gga ever to live on earth?"
"Nah. I'm the smartest." 

"I never said you wasn't."

"They said I was."

"Don't tell no lies negro." Durk said. "they called me stupid." 

"Oh right." he said smiling. "Well you need to talk to Don."

"I don't need to do anything but go home and go to bed. It's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyy past my bedtime. Waaaaaaaaaay past my bedtime." 

"You're 16." Khaleed said.

"N!gga if you don't stop reminding me how old I am. I know I'm 16. Do you know your age?" 

"Hell yeah. Which reminds me..... who got shot?"

"What ya mean?" that's when someone came up to us. Holding their stomach.Crouched down. They scared me. Khaleed pushed me back. Then handed me Kaapro. I backed up and waited. 

"I-I-I-I need help." the person coughed. Khaleed looked at the person. Durk went up closer to them. 

"Are you ok?" 

"I've been shot."  I could tell it was man. He looked at me. 

"Cage?" 

"This that n!gga that shot at you?" Bibby said pulling out his gun.

"Don't shoot. Please.... I wasn't shooting at her. I was shooting at Megan. She was trying to kill you."

"I know now." I replied.

Bibby still had his gun out. "Why should I believe you?" Cage looked down at his gunshot wound. "Truuu." he put his gun down.

"Can y'all take me to the hospital?" he asked.

"Nah but we'll call the ambulance." Khaleed said. "No hard feelings. But Kayla has something she needs to do." After they called the police, we all got in the car. They drove down to Don's house.

"Why are we here?" I asked.

"Talk to him Kayla." They all said.

"I don't need to talk to him." I said crossing my arms. 

"Yes you do. You need to understand where he's coming from." 

"He was rey cheat. So let him cheat." I said looking out the window. I saw the front door open. Don came out. He saw the car. Khaleed got out to let me out. I sat there as he opened the door. I stared at them. When they realized I wasn't getting out the car, everybody got out and left me in the car. They went in Don's house and Don got in the car. I didn't even look at him. 

"Kayla." 

"Don't say my name." 

He was quiet for a couple of minutes before he opened the door and got out the car. I turned to look at him. I saw him walk inside the house. I sat there for a minute thinking that he would come back. He didn't.
