Chapter 8

Gerard’s POV

“Okay guys! I think that’s enough lovey-dovey googly eyes for now. Let the lady take a seat now, Gee.” Once again, Frank interrupts. I glared at him but he continued to grin. “You’re welcome,” he smirked.

I heard Nikki giggle. I looked at her and blushed. “Um, here let me get that for you.” I took the tray from her and placed it on the table. Being the gentleman that I am, I pulled up the chair beside me and gestured for her to sit down.

“Thank you Gerard.”  She grinned then took a seat.  Shit, she’s so beautiful. I looked at Frank first who was watching us, trying to hold a giggle, before I sat down beside her.

“So, Nikki, how did you and Gerard meet?” Nikki was about to answer his question when Frank started to speak again.

“Oh, wait, he told me this! You guys bumped into each other and the hotdog you were eating splattered all over your top. So, Gee apologized then forced you to come with him. He bought you a top then…” Frank re-told every single detail of how Nikki and I met. Shit! Damn the day that I told him any of this.

“….and now you’re here, sitting in Starbucks, having coffee with us,” he finished, doing the “ta-dah” pose. Nikki was dumbstruck and all I could do was slap my palm against my forehead. What a friend I have. I looked at Nikki. She looked shocked, but then her expression changed. She began to giggle and I started to relax.

“Not a single detail out of place. Wow, Frank, you’re a great listener. Kudos,” Nikki smiled. Frank tipped his invisible hat. I smiled at his action; there was no way I could stay mad at him. Fortunately, Frank and Nikki got along very well and we were able to talk about a lot of things; she told us that she just got back from London where she visited a friend. We told her about the upcoming tour which was, once again, led by Frank. I only had the chance to squeeze in a little info to correct him on a few details. In short, we were enjoying ourselves.

Then, Frank’s phone rang. “Hello? Oh, hey, babe! What’s up?” A buzzing came from the receiver. “Yeah, I’m with Gee and a friend of his.” Frank looked over at me and Nikki, smiling. “Yeah, that friend. Anyway, what’s up?” He ran a hand through his hair and sighed.

“Was that Jamia? “ I asked.

“Yup! She wanted me to pick her up from her Mom’s house. Like, right now,” Frank answered. He started to put his jacket on and shoved his phone into his pocket.

“Aw, you’re leaving already?” Nikki pouted.

“Sorry, you guys. My lovely lady calls. It was really nice meeting you, though, Nikki!” he replied, signaling to his phone.

Frank stood up followed by Nikki. She then gave frank a hug.

“Likewise, Frankie!” she smiled.

“I’ll bring the coffee to the studio, Gee. I still have to pick up a few things anyway before I go pick up Jamia,” he said, taking the others’ coffee with him.

“Thanks, Frank,” I replied. We did our bro handshake and he left.

“Make good choices!” he shouted back to us. Nikki and I looked to each other and back to Frank’s departing form, breaking out into uncontrollable laughter. Then it was awkward silence. My heart’s pounding again. Shit. I think it was much better when Frank was here doing all the talking. I keep having this feeling that if I try to speak nothing will come out of my mouth.

“Um, so…” I started.

“So,” she mimicked. I chuckled and ran a hand through my hair.

“Today was great,” I smiled.

“It was. Thanks to you and Frank,” she giggled.

“Maybe we can do this again sometime. You know, just the two of us.” Whoa. Where did that come from? Oh yeah, from my half- awake ego. Shit. She looked at me with a puzzled face. She was silent for a few seconds then let out a smug smile.

“Um, you mean like a date?” she said, low enough to be a whisper. I nodded, my eyes glued to my coffee.

“Um, that’s sound great,” she smiled, bumping her shoulder into mine.

“Really?”  I asked, looking in her eyes for any sign of jest.

“Yeah. Err, when exactly?” she asked.

Oh crap, I haven’t thought of that.

“Um, well, the guys and I have things to deal with for the tour this week.” I looked at her. “I can’t really say when we’ll see each other again.” I expected her to pout or get angry at this information. But she didn’t. She smirked then took a pen from her bag and wrote something on a piece of tissue paper.

“Well, if that’s the case, I guess we should just keep in touch,” she said still writing. “The first time we met, we left nothing for each other to communicate. I’m not gonna let that happen again.” She slid the tissue towards me.

I looked at the piece of paper and saw her number. Holy shit, she just gave me her number!  “I guess we should,” I said with a smirk. She laughed.

“I guess so. It was really nice to see you again, Gerard. It took a while but it was worth it,” she hugged me then kissed me on the cheeks. “See you.”

Then she left without another glance back. At that very moment, I was left sitting there with my hands placed on my cheeks and a big smile on my face that not a thing in the world could make fade.
