*writing in third person point of view because it's so much easier*

anna and luke were finally sitting at luke's dinner table eating their home made spaghetti. it took a lot of work considering the fact that luke kept flicking tomato sauce and noodles into her hair, but successfully finished right before the clock hit 8.

while they were eating and enjoying each other's presence, anna had one question that she's been dying to ask the whole night and she couldn't bite her tongue any longer.

she played around with her pasta noodles aimlessly with her fork while biting her lip, deep in thought about how she was going to approach the topic while luke was going on about how michael gets super competitive while playing fifa sometimes.

"he goes to any extent to win this game i swear. one time, while him and ashton were playing; ashton was in the lead and then michael 'accidentally' spilled piping hot coffee all over ashton's legs! that bloke is fucking insane i swea-" luke was suddenly cut off by anna's voice.

"when are you ever gonna tell me why?" she said, not realizing she interrupted him.

he sagged his shoulders and placed his fork down while wiping his mouth with his napkin. she didn't need to elaborate because he already knew what she was talking about. he already knew the whole story behind the 'why' and quite frankly, the whole thought of it sends shivers down his back.

"look anna, its not that i don't want to tell you, i full on totally wish it was so easy just to say it, but things don't work that way." luke tried to reason.

"but why?" anna dropped her fork loudly onto her plate, "why is it so complicated just to tell me what happened in the past and what made you into this totally new person?" she was obviously frustrated.

luke was getting a little mad about how difficult and how short-tempered she was being. he didn't like the fact that she wasn't understanding, but then again, he didn't necessarily elaborate on how uncomfortable and uneasy he was about the topic.

luke rubbed his hands over his face while trying to gather his thoughts.

"anna, it's complicated because it's hard for me to say what happened. i have nightmares every single night about what happened in the past, and i have night mares about the night i let you walk out of my flat in the rain, alone." alone. because if they didn't have called their whole friendship off, luke and anna both know that he would have never let her walk back by herself. "and it just hurts too much to get the words out. it's just too much for me and i still need time to figure everything out. can you just try to have patience?" he said with compassion.

anna understood how luke was feeling. she's felt the need to keep time to herself so she can heal after what's happened to her and she knows how bad it feels to talk about the things that eats her alive every night. but she still doesn't understand why he had to shut her out of his life and why he gave up on even trying in school. anna remembered how luke always used to dream of having a scholarship and how he was always so hard working in school.

now, he doesn't give one shit about anything at school but the music program and lunch.

"look, i'm completely sorry for trying to push you into telling me about something you're still trying to recover from. i didn't realize." anna said while smiling sheepishly but it slowly faded away, "but i'm still confused on why you had to change into somebody different. like this whole 'asshole' thing isn't going to grow on me anytime soon." she was very serious, but of course luke didn't take it that way.

he laughed in a cocky manner, "ah, come on ans. this whole thing turns you on and you know it." he winked.

anna mentally gagged. physically, rolled her eyes.
