Jess and Nobley spend the rest of the morning rehearsing and at lunch she catches him staring at her a few times during the meal. And when he gives her a smile she finally realizes what's wrong with her painting... It's his eyes... the eyes are too hard... they need to be gentler...

After the meal is over Jess excuses herself and rushes upstairs, anxious to finish the painting. She sets up the easel and canvas, gets out the paints, and starts fixing the eyes. Not much, only subtle changes here and there. She also alters his mouth just enough that he has the smallest hint of a smile. After she finishes, she steps back to look at it. 'Perfect,' she thinks.

She wants to show Henry, ask him his opinion, but he would probably find it creepy. 'No, I guess I won't tell him about it. I can ask Ella about it later...'

Before she knows it it's time for dinner. And Ella comes up to walk down with her to the drawing room. They find Bradford rolling his eyes as Mr. Nobley tells Colonel Andrews about the incident this morning with expressive hands and laughter behind his voice.

"We were very glad no one was standing underneath it," Amelia giggles.

They seem a bit at ease. And that's when Jess notices Misses Wattlesbrook isn't present.

"Just promise us you won't touch any of them on the night of the ball," Captain East makes fun before he takes a drink.

"Good one," Lizzy says.

"It's all quite funny isn't it?" Bradford says with crossed arms.

Ella is already giggling.

"Yes Mr. Bradford, it is. It's why we keep you around," Jess says on entry with an amused smile.

"Oh hilarious," Bradford chuckles at Jess.

"But don't worry we still love you," Ella says as she goes to stand beside him.

"Nah, not really..." East jokes.

"Oh this coming from Mr.-always-takes-his-shirt-off-for-no-reason," he points fingers at George.

He looks offended. "I have reasons!"

"Oh this I know," he sasses.

All the women are laughing now.

He shrugs. "At least I'm not hurting anybody," he argues.

"I beg to differ," Nobley mutters, an almost disgusted look on his face as he looks at the ground.

Jess giggles a little. It's nice being able to act almost normal.
