Chapter 10

Carl's POV

I woke up from the crash only to find myself in a large blank field. There wasn't a thing in sight. I could hear some voices though. I recognized them immediately. Kirsten! It felt like tears were streaming down my face but I wasn't crying. I could hear only some of what she was saying. "Love..." "Wake...." "Nothing..." That's all I heard. I knew it wasn't all she said but that was it. I heard Skyler's voice then Aric's. I began to walk around the field but it never seemed to end. It was like a eternal field of nothingness. After a while I heard Sawyer's voice. After a while I heard "go." My heart broke at this. "No, don't go!" I yelled, "I'm still here!" But I heard some footsteps and a door shut. Did they not hear my yell? How did they not? Was I in heaven? Was I already dead? But then something struck me. I didn't hear Akane! I remembered what Skyler had said "Akane..." "too...." "up..."  Was Akane here too? I began running far and wide searching but she was nowhere to be found. Was she somewhere else? Where was she? Was she dead? He hoped with all of him she wasn't. He remembered the times he had the chance to talk with Akane separately and he remembered how sweet but weak she was. He just couldn't accept it. Almost 15 minutes later, and several visits from some unidentified voices, he heard the door open and four pairs of footsteps come in. I heard the lightest pair of footsteps run to the farther bed. Akane! My mind screamed, Akane is next to me! But why are we in a hospital? I heard Kirsten whisper to me. Her voice was so fragile, it hurt so much. Again, I heard them all talk to me and it hurt so much to not know what they were saying and not be able to do anything about it. After at least a week, I heard the (what I found to be) nurses/doctors discussing something. "Wait..." "couple..." "days.." "But.." "He'll wake" I'll wake up? So I'm definitely not dead then... suddenly, I heard a scream of surprise. "Her..." "rate!" I heard shuffling feet towards Akane. A constant beeping echoed through the room as they checked up on her. "Heart..." "rates..." "high..." I heard a beeping noise of a phone. "Ms. Fredericks..." "come..." "Akane..." What seemed like 45 minutes later, footsteps came racing in. "Akane!" I heard Sawyer shout. Suddenly, it all went dark and mute.
