Chapter 8

CHAPTER EIGHT

That morning I wake up at 8:45. I have to be at the cafeteria at 9:00.

I jump in the shower which takes me 7 minutes. I put my hair in a side French braid again. I put a white T-shirt with blue poka dots. It is 9:15 now. Where is Luke I wonder? I know how to get to the cafeteria so I leave my room. Then I run into someone who looks lost. "Hello?" "Hey. Are you going to the cafeteria?" The girl asks. "Yes. Do you wanna walk with me?" I ask. "Sure. My name is Maddy." "Elizabeth but I prefer Liz or Lizzy." I say. "Okay Liz."

We walk to the cafeteria. For breakfast there were eggs, toast, bagles, and pancakes. I grab a pancake and a piece of toast. I wait for Maddie. "Come on let's sit over here." Maddie says pointing to a table with only one other person sitting there. "Eddie this is Liz. Liz this is Eddie my friend." Maddie says. "Hello Ed." I say "I prefer Eddie but it's nice to meet you." He says. "Sorry Eddie." I say. "It's okay." He replies. I eat quietly thinking where is Luke? Then Luke walks in his blue eyes today look really blue. He grabs food and sits down next to me. "Sorry I didn't get you this morning. I was working out." Luke says. "It's okay this is Maddie and Eddie." I say pointing to Eddie and Maddie. "Nice to meet you guys." Luke says. "How'd you sleep?" Luke asks.

"Alright I guess. What about you?" I ask. "Good thanks for asking." He adds. Why don't you go by Lucas?" I ask not sure why but I did. "Why don't you go by Elizabeth?" He asks. "Touché." I say. "My mom always called me Lucas after she died I couldn't hear the name without crying so I now go by Luke." He says. "Your turn why don't you go by Elizabeth?" He asks. "I always think it's a mouthful to say Elizabeth I mean come on Liz and Lizzy is so much easier to say." I say. We all sit quietly eating our breakfast none of us sure what's going to happen today. "We are going to workout again today." Liam stands and says. "It will be right before lunch so be in here at 11:30 sharp." He says leaving the room.

"What should we do?" I ask Luke. "I don't care." He says. "Wanna walk around the compound see what's around?" I ask. "Sure sounds fun." He says. We get up and leave the table. "Hey can we hang with you guys?" Maddie asks. "It's fine with me." Luke says. "Sure." I say. The four of us walk down different hallways left and rights. By now I'm lost. "I sure hope you all know where you're going." I say. "We've been here long enough to know where to go." Eddie says. "Yeah calm down Liz." Maddie adds. Maddie and Eddie are holding hands I wonder if they are a thing or something. We did a whole loop around the compound we end back at the cafeteria at 11:25. "Right on time kids." Liam says. As we walk in the room. Slowly the rest fill in the room. "Come on we have stuff to do today." Liam says.
