I sighed getting out of the pickup truck, which my foster brother Chase was driving, and stepping on the undisturbed soil, "Where exactly are we?" I asked confused, my chocolate brown hair blowing in my matching set of eyes with the harsh wind. Chase chuckled a deep hearty chuckle, making him sound old even though he's only 21,

"Home," I rolled my eyes...no shit, but where the hell is home?

"We came out here when we first got married and biult a house all to ourselves," Cynthia said from behind me, clinging onto her husband Jake,

"Yeah...all to yourselves...at the top of a mountain...away from civilization...I got say that's a little creepy," I clicked my tongue and Chase did his chuckle again,

"Well, if you get annoying and we decide to kill you, no one will be able to hear your screams," They laughed and walked to the beautiful house right next to the dark scary woods...fantastic,

"I'm serious aren't you guys afraid of like, I don't know wild animals attacking you while you sleep?" Jake laughed again,

"They do, you know what we call them?" I shook my head and he leaned in, "Dinner," I scoffed as I followed them in.

This is why I love them...yes love. Normally foster parents are given bad images because of some bullshit reason, but my foster family is awesome. They adopted me around six months ago, but I wasn't exactly ready to leave home yet, so they stayed with me. They are caring, loving and easy to get along with...most of the time, so after some soul searching and final goodbyes to my old home and family memories I decided it was time to take a leap of faith...which brought me here...thanks a lot faith,

"Here, I'll show you where your room is," Chase said eagerly. I followed him up a flight o stairs and down a hall to a door that was carved perfectly, when he opened it I smiled. All my old things were already set up for me and everything else along with them,

"Thanks, I think I'm going to sleep, but tell your parents I said thanks...for everything," He smiled gently and nodded before closing the door softly. I sighed and looked around, walked to one of my dressers and picked up a frame that held a picture of me, my dad, my mom and my little sister, held it to my chest and sighed,

"We made it this far guys," Is all I said before calling it a night and heading to bed.

The next morning I awoke to the smell of bacon and smiled while forcing myself out of bed. I looked at myself and saw I was still in my pajamas and shrugged, I don't think they'll care, so I slipped on some slippers and made my way to the kitchen where the smell of breakfast was at it's strongest,

"Morning," Jake said in happy voice...I nodded too tired to say anything and sat at the table where Cynthia was reading the news paper,

"Shouldn't this be the other way around?" I asked then yawned, Jake smiled and shook his head but Cynthia had a hard look on her face,

"What is it hun?" Jake asked her and she sighed before removing her glasses and folding the paper,

 "Another attack," I froze,

"Attack?" She nodded and Chase sat next to her,

"Was anyone hurt?" She nodded again,

"Several...two dead," I looked around the room and waited for more but it never came,

"What kind of attack?" I asked curiously,

"Animal," they all said together and that's when I freaked,

"Are you kidding me?! Animal attack?! Hurt several, killed two and you guys are sitting here eating breakfast, sipping on your coffee while living right next to a freaking forest?!" Chase patted my back,

"Don't worry, we're safe. Jake and I are really good hunters and ma is really good with tracks, so if she sees anything we leave for town, okay?" I shook my head,

"I've suddenly lost my appetite...I'm going to go take a shower," They all frowned but said nothing else as I got up and headed to my room, which had it's own bathroom. While in the shower my mind was stuck on this animal attack but I tried my best to push it to the back of my mind. What kind of helped was the fact school started tomorrow, and my sweet foster parents were making me go...yay.

I was going to be a junior even though I turn eighteen this year, which apparently is too old to be a junior, but in Cali, every junior is seventeen and sometimes even older, maybe it's because of my birthday, oh well. I just hope school here isn't so much more different then back home, because I've already made such a big change. I was dragged out of thoughts when I felt my fingers and noticed they were pruned.

I sighed and finished up then got out to see Chase sitting on my bed reading a book, "Can I help you?" He looked up at me and shook his head before going back to his book, "Okay...then what are you doing in my room," I asked while sitting next to him. He shrugged,

"Just thought you'd like to talk...that's all," I looked at him and saw he was still reading,

"No I'm good, I usually talk to myself," He finally looked up again and smirked,

 "That isn't healthy," I smiled,

"It's perfectly normal for an insane person though," He shook his head and rolled his eyes, his dirty blond hair scraping his broad shoulders,

"Admitting you have a problem is the first step my dear friend, seeking help is the next," I laughed,

"Awe but I wanted to skip that step!" He put his book down and smiled,

"Seriously though, you aren't really afraid of living here are you," I frowned as thoughts of the forest flashed in my mind, "Because me and my dad really do know how to fend off animals, we know the most of them well," I sighed and looked at him,

"Takes one to know one I suppose," He chuckled and shook his head,

"Alright, but if you need anyone to talk to...about anything, I'm always here," I smiled thankfully then smirked,

"About that...if you're 21, why are you still living with your parents?" He looked deep in thought then shrugged,

"If I moved who would cook for me? Clean for me? Make my bed? Do my laundry? The dishes?-"

"Alright, alright I get it...you're lazy," He shrugged,

"Pretty much," I laughed and threw a pillow at him, but he dodged it,stuck his tongue out and closed my door, leaving me to my thoughts again.

The rest of the day went by really fast and I was kind of sad about that, because aside from learning about the whole animal attack thing, today was pretty nice. Cynthia took me into town to get some groceries, I honestly think she was trying to get me to meet this cashier who worked at the general store, because all she did was talk about me to him. He smirked at me and I rolled my eyes playfully and made the coo-coo sign toward Cynthia making him laugh.

When we got back, everything went smooth and soon enough I was back in bed dreading the time where I'll have to get up and go to jail...I mean school. Oh well, I guess it can't be that bad...right?
