A few days after Reid and I returned to the office we were sent a huge case. The only downside was it was in Nebraska. At least if we want corn while we're there we won't have to worry about not being able to find any.
We all got a call from JJ the night before telling us to rest up and pack an away bag seeing as we'd be meeting on the plane and we'd get debriefed on the way there. Reid and I had not trouble with the rest part. The waking up was difficult. As always.
We all showed up half asleep looking like we'd been hit with bats around six the next morning. We sat in the plane for a good hour before anybody spoke up.
"You all have files right? I didn't forget any?"
"I don't."
Garcia had forgotten a copy for me in her tired daze.
"You can share mine. I've already read through it. Twice."
I had to smile when Reid said that. His reading speed has always fascinated me.
"Thanks boy genius."
He smiles before looking at Hotch.
"So what do we know about him so far?"
"He's targeting women between the ages of eighteen and twenty-six. Most of them have been under five and a half feet tall and have no defensive wounds."
"So he's blitzing them but still picking smaller targets to make sure he can grab them fast enough."
"Exactly Blake. He's keeping them for seventy-two hours before he dumps their bodies."
I looked through the photographs.
"It seems like he's dumping them in places that are semi open. Could that indicate a small amount of remorse?"
"It very well could but it could also indicate other things."
Morgan spoke up.
"It could indicate pride. What he's done or he wants them to be found before animals can get ahold of them."
"So he wants the ME to be able to document everything he's done to them?"
"That's not even the worst part. I'm happy I don't have my big screen because he's cutting sections of skin off of their arms and legs after they die."
Garcia shivered at the words that came out of her mouth and so did I to be honest.
"So what's the game plan Aaron?"
We had all been thinking it but Morgan said it.
"First off Fletch isn't going anywhere without one of us."
"Why? Because I fit the description?"
"That's exactly why Willow and I'd rather not have to deal with you getting killed cause you do something stupid."
"Listen macho man-"
"Enough. You aren't going without myself or Reid. You won't be unprotected."
Hotch used the dad voice on me and it made me pout like a child and mumble under my breath.
"You guys can kiss the darkest part of my little white ass."
"What was that?"
"Nothing sir."
Rossi must've heard me because he was smirking. The rest of the flight was normal. Poker, chess, statistics.
When we finally got there Hotch and Reid had already put me on a short leash and weren't letting me wander very far unless we were in the field office.
We set up the profile and went to work searching. JJ and Morgan went to interview the victims friends and family while Rossi and Blake went to their places of employment.
I on the other hand was stuck with wonder boy and the master of resting bitch face pen in had and paperwork piled high. Luckily I was sitting with Garcia.
"I feel like I work in a friggin research facility."
She giggled.
"You're just too precious for this world and they don't want you getting hurt."
That made me laugh.
"I took Morgan down drunk one of the nights we went out after work. They think I can't defend myself? Pft."
"We know you can. He's just blitzing and drugging his victims so you wouldn't have a lot of time to do so."
"Well hello wonder boy. I didn't realize you were listening."
"I always listen to my surroundings. It puts me at ease."
This was definitely going to be a long case and we all found that out when everybody got back with no leads and little information on the victims.
"You mean to tell me that they were all out of touch with their families and didn't have friends aside from work?"
JJ nodded and slumped into a chair.
"Their families all said they hadn't heard from them in months."
"Well that's just lovely."
"Garcia."
"Yes captain boss man."
"Have you found any connections between the victims?"
"No. Not yet but I can feel it in my sparkly unicorn soul that I will."
Hotch nodded and sat down at this table with a quizzical look on his face.
"I see the wheels turning but I don't hear anything coming out of that mouth of yours."
"What if they aren't connected by association but by somewhere they went. Garcia."
"Already searching good sir."
We ended up staying at the office over night searching like mad men with the occasional power nap here and there. Garcia runs on glitter and fairy dust and just kept searching the whole time. Unsub:4 BAU:0
