"Thanks for the ride!" I grin widely at Nick. "I really didn't wanna take the bus."

My so called 'date' with Drew unfortunately had to end an hour early. We had both agreed to go the arcade after the movie, however his older sister called telling him she needed his help with something at home. Drew apologized for having to leave early but I didn't mind. I found it really sweet that he wanted to help out his sister. I generally find family-oriented people the best kind of people in the world.

"Go ahead, I understand. Family first right?" I said to him.

"You sure you're okay with it? I'd really hate to leave you like this, its just that my sister-" He started to explain with worried eyes.

"Drew it's fine. I promise." I interjected. "Go help her out. I can just call someone to pick me up." I smiled at him to show him that I wasn't upset.

"You're great Jordan. Thanks for understanding."

We both leaned for a hug goodbye, and suddenly I had felt Drew's face getting closer to mine as we released from the hug. He quickly planted a kiss on my cheek which may or may not have caused my stomach to flip at the feeling.

We exchanged our goodbyes and then I was left alone outside of the movie theatre. The sun was hanging over the horizon and the sky was just about to get dark. Luckily there were people around so I didn't feel that alone.

I instantly called Nick, since he was the first to come to mind, to pick me up.

It had slipped my mind that I didn't bring a jacket with me. I wasn't aware that this evening was going to be kind of cold. Even in the summer.

Screw you Canada.

The cold wind caused my voice to sound shaky and brought shivers all over my body. Going inside wasn't really an option for me. The placed was packed and was barely any free space to wait around.

I preferred to stay out and stand the cold for a bit then stay inside and suffocate from the lack of oxygen.

To my surprise, Nick arrived at the movies faster than I thought.

I now sit in Nick's passenger seat as he drives on the familiar route I know that'll lead me to my house.

"You know you scared the shit out of me. I thought something happened to you."

"Like what exactly?" I raise a brow as I look over to him.

Nick doesn't answer. He locks his focus onto the road, purposely not answering my question.

"You thought Drew did something to me didn't you?" I say.

"I was just worried. Drew is...unpredictable. I don't trust him. And the way you sounded on the phone...I thought..." He doesn't finish his sentences.

I can't help but fight the smile and laugh that emerges from my mouth. I turn my face towards the window, trying to hide it so he can't see.

"Why are you laughing?" He asks, confused.

"I've never really seen you protective over me before. It's kinda strange." I finally turn to face him. "And funny." I add before another giggle escapes.

Nick's never really shown any sign of protectiveness towards me. We've only been best friends for less than 3 years so I can say that this is a first. It's not like I've been in any dangerous or life threatening situations anyways for him to worry or get protective.

"It won't be funny when Drew screws you over and breaks you're little heart because I don't want to have to say 'I told you so.' And I don't want to be the one to help pick you up after you fall." He rushes his words, taking a deep breath once he finishes.
