One of the most anticipated games this whole school year is about to start in less than an hour. You can already tell that the school is buzzing with excitement. It's either they're hyped for the big game or the big party that comes after it.
The past few days have been a little bit off. I haven't really seen Drew around much. He often texts me saying how he's busy practicing for the game and really needs focus. The same went for me. I needed to study for exams.
So, so far I've done nothing but study. And thats what I plan on doing again today.
I also hate to admit it but things between Nick and I have gotten kind of weird? There's a mixture of slight awkwardness and tension between us that I can't explain.
Although I'm not sure if it's that misunderstanding we had in the car that caused it or if there's something else going on.
Like today, I stopped by Nick's locker in between classes just to wish him good luck for the game.
All I got back was a flat "thanks" and him walking away right after. I stood at his locker for a good minute before I could even comprehend what had happened.
At that moment I knew something was off.
Once the bell had rang, I instantly made my way towards the front exit. I took a quick look at the field and saw floods of people making their way up the bleachers.
"Oh my god there you are!" I hear a voice shout from behind me.
I turn my head to see Lydia marching towards me. She was dressed in our school colours. Wearing a red t-shirt dress and a bright yellow headband. Only the people with school pride dressed in our school colours whenever there was a game. Lydia was one of them.
I feel her arm lace around mine as she pulls me aside, away from other students.
"Don't tell me you're not going to the game?!"
"I never go to any games..." I state.
"But you have to go to this one! Especially since you and Drew are a thing now."
Drew and I are a 'thing' now?!
"Where did you hear this?!" My eyes widen.
"I didn't hear it anywhere. I saw it." She explains. "Actually, everyone saw it. On Twitter."
"Saw what?"
Lydia whips out her phone from her bag pocket and puts it directly in front of my face. The screen displays Drew's Twitter account.
"Look at the second tweet. He posted it the day after your date."
My eyes look down to find the tweet she's talking about. The tweet displays a picture of me in his car, staring outside the window.
He captioned it: "my girl ❤️"
"Oh my god..."
"He got like 120 favourites on it. So I'm guessing most people in our grade knows."
I can't seem to find my voice as I re-read the tweet over and over again. Did Drew just assume we were a couple?
"But- I- I'm not his girl. We just went on one date!" I try to explain myself. "Did he tweet anything else?!"
"Nope, just that. But it made it pretty clear that you guys are more than just friends." She says.
"Does everyone think we're dating?" I begin to panic.
"Most likely."
"Oh my god." I throw my face into my palms, taking a deep inhale and exhale.
"What's wrong? Do you not like him? If I were you I'd be ecstatic!" She squeals, grabbing onto my arms.
