Third Round – Hana Uzumaki vs. Ushima of Kirigakure
The air above the arena felt wrong.
Not charged — strained.
Hana stood with her weight low, senses spread wide despite the sharp ache behind her eyes. Ushima's chakra came in violent pulses now, uneven and jagged, like something trapped beneath ice that had begun to crack.
Across the stands, Shima sat rigid, hands clenched white-knuckled in her lap. Her chakra was faint, stretched thin from her earlier fight — healing exhaustion layered over fear.
"That seal..." she murmured. "It's tearing itself apart."
Shisui didn't blink. His Sharingan tracked Ushima's every movement, every microscopic delay between chakra surges.
The proctor hesitated longer than necessary.
Then dropped his arm.
"Begin."
The sand beneath Ushima liquefied instantly.
Water Release: Flooding Burial.
The ground surged upward like a living tide, swallowing the arena floor in churning water mixed with something darker — acidic, biting. Hana leapt back as steam hissed violently where droplets struck stone.
She landed and moved without pause.
Wind Release: Cutting Gust.
The air compressed into razor-edged currents, carving through the wave — only for the water to split and reform, sliding around the attack like a thinking being.
Ushima didn't advance.
She stood still as the water rose around her ankles, her breathing uneven, eyes unfocused.
"Stay back," she said again — quieter this time. "Please."
Then she raised both hands.
The water collapsed inward.
Water Release: Acid Spiral Coffin.
A vortex tore across the arena, spinning fast enough to lift stone from the ground. Hana sprinted sideways, seals flashing between her fingers as she slammed them down mid-run.
Barrier tags flared to life — Containment Net, Type II — forming a glowing lattice just long enough to deflect the spiral's edge.
The tags burned out instantly.
Hana hit the ground hard, rolled, came up coughing as acidic mist scorched her sleeve.
Too fast. Too unstable.
Ushima screamed.
The sound tore out of her as water erupted from her back in jagged arcs, splashing and hissing where it landed. The seal on her body pulsed violently now, glowing unevenly beneath her skin.
Hana felt it — the pressure building, coiling.
She dashed forward again, weaving through collapsing water and flying debris, chakra reinforcing her limbs.
Ushima snapped her head up.
Water Release: Piercing Rain.
Hundreds of needle-thin jets rained down, each one carrying corrosive chakra. Hana skidded to a halt, twisting mid-motion.
Wind Release: Vacuum Wall.
The barrier formed just in time — water striking it with a sound like tearing metal. The pressure forced Hana back, feet digging trenches into the stone.
