Chapter 6 - Alex
I burst through the hospital doors, panting. This wasn't true. It couldn't be true. This had to be a dream. I'm begging you. Let this be a dream. As I entered further into the building, I ran up to the front desk.
"Is Marie Chambers here?" I asked. The startled looking women, nodded her head slowly. She looked a bit scared but she pointed her finger down a white hallway with two doors.
"That way," she said. I quickly thanked her and ran down the hallway as fast as I could. I opened up the doors and stepped in. I stopped in my tracks. There were tons of people in the waiting room. But I knew exactly who they all were here for. I walked up to the receptionist. Her eyes were glued to the computer on her desk, her fingers typing away. Before I could ask her anything, she asked, "Are you here for Ms. Marie Chambers?"
"Yes," I squeaked out. She looked up from her computer and stared at me.
"You have to wait here like everyone else. Ms. Chambers can't except visitors right now."
I slowly nodded letting her words sink in. I walked away and stumbled upon a chair. I sat down and sighed. This is my worst nightmare. I looked around the waiting room. Are all these people all here for Marie? There were a few teachers and students who I assumed attended Harvard. All in their suits and staff uniforms.I wonder how they all got here in the span of twelve hours. Everyone was dead silent. The only noise that was loud was the pouring ran outside and the receptionist at her desk, typing away at her worries. I sighed once again and closed my eyes. Apparently, Marie got hit by the car here in New Jersey. Zack said she was visiting her family in Baltimore and while driving through New Jersey. She ran out of gas and I guess she was crossing the road to the gas station, she wasn't looking both ways and got hit by a fast driving car. I don't know exactly what happened but after Zack ran out of the dressing room screaming, "Wait!" I knew something was up. The memory flooded through my mind as I recalled wait happened exactly twelve hours ago.
"You were great!" Lisa cheered.
"Thanks," I smiled. Lisa giggled and before I knew it, she pressed her lips to mine. I didn't know what to do. I couldn't push her away since we were in a room full of people. But I didn't want to kiss back since I have a girlfriend. Who is not Lisa. Suddenly I heard Zack yell, "Wait!" Lisa and I instantly pull away when Zack ran out of the room. Lisa smiled up at me as she kissed me once again. I gently pushed her away.
"No," I said. Her eyes read hurt, but she'll understand. Lisa has always been a understanding person. I locked eyes with Jack across the room and his eyes too read hurt. He knew, hell everyone knew I was dating Marie. And cheating on her behind her back was wrong. I know she'll never do that to me. Before I could respond to Lisa, Zack burst through the room, his eyes filled with tears.
"Marie got hit by a car!"
Confusion filled through the air in the tiny room.
"What?" Rian asked.
"Marie!" Zack panted. "She got hit...by a car!"
Everyone was silent for a moment, weather to believe it or not. I could feel everyone turn to look at me. Excepting some emotion from me. But nothing.
"Are you serious?" Flyzik asked. Zack slowly nodded as more tears came running down his face.
"What happened?" I whispered. Everyone turned their eyes on me as if I wasn't here in the room the whole time.
"She was driving to Baltimore to visit family and she ended up here in Jersey and got hit while crossing the road," Zack whimpered.
"Oh," was all I said. Oh.
