Chapter 17

After you had walked away, you found yourself on a massive rock away from the village. You missed home, you hated this place. The way you couldn't seem to do anything right simply because you were labeled a 'freak'. You decided to stay there and lay on the rock until about 15 minutes later, you hadn't realized you'd fallen asleep until you felt a shadow on your face which caused you to open your eyes to slits, closing them and not paying attention.

"What's your problem? You can't just go around fighting people." you heard a voice speak which caused you to grunt and turn over onto your stomach, laying on your arms. "Dad can you not? Ao'nung and his dumb friends were picking on Kiri." you said, not looking up at the voice.

"Dad?" you heard the voice scoff. Your eyes shot open realizing the familiar voice wasn't Jake at all, it was Ao'nung.

"I- uhhh.." You stammered as you sat up, "I well... yeah I didn't say anything that wasn't true. I'm not sorry that I hit you, you deserved it." You added. "Listen, I'm sorry for how i've acted around my friends but please don't get yourself hurt. My parents would kill me if something happened to you and I just.. let it happen." Ao'nung spoke as he sat in front of you.

"Wow, what a selfish thing to say. 'My parents would kill me' meh meh meh mah meh." You mocked as you rolled your eyes. "I'm serious, stay out of trouble. If you want to stay here, you have to-" "I don't want to stay here. I would rather leave." You cut him off and you could see the patience leave his face. "Look, you don't understand. We are to be mated as soon as you learn your place here. I'm not going to sit here and let you make a fool of yourself in front of the whole village." Ao'nung growled, fed up with you.

You sat there and stared at him for a moment. "Why are you not even fighting against this?" you asked. "It's useless. I can do nothing against this. I have tried reasoning with them but they won't listen. Apparently, this was the plan all along. Find me a mate. You were just... conveniently there and they needed a trade." He said, rubbing his temples.

"Oh." You responded, not really knowing what to say. "Ao'nung! Where's Lo'ak?!" You heard Neteyam call out. "Sh*t.." He said, panic in his eyes. "Ao'nung, where's Lo'ak?" You asked, grabbing his chin and making him look at you as Neteyam got closer. "I.. I left him outside the reef." "YOU WHAT?" you said, standing up. "Where's Lo'ak?" Neteyam said once again, closer now. "TELL HIM WHAT YOU TOLD ME?!"

"I left him outside the reef! Okay? It was messed up! I know that!" With that news, Neteyam got angrier and angrier. He grabbed his ear and led him to your father.
