Simon sat on the bed, back lent against the head board, books open across his legs. He was alone and welcoming the peaceful quiet of his room. Izzy had been clingy these past few days and Eric had been ringing his phone none stop, it was almost like they where fighting for his attention. But here in the familiar dimness of his old bedroom he could almost forget that any of this was happening, that any of it was real. All apart from the Shadow hunter text books covering him and his bed.

The codex had been the most help so far, helping him learn the different types of runes and techniques for using a Stele. The demonology books had been the least help due to the fact that they were all in demon tongue. Simon had tried to convince Magnus to help him and the lanky warlock had for a short time, a very short time. Apparently Magnus had no patience for a young mundane that couldn't learn languages to save his life.

It was a shame because his final exam was only days away and he needed to pass to be put in for the Ascension.

There was a sudden knock at the door followed by his mums voice. Quickly he closed all the books and shoved them under his bed, loosing all the pages he needed.

"Simon there is someone here to see you" The door opened the moment she had finished. Simon expected Izzy or Eric and prepared for the onslaught of hugs and kisses or a major guilt trip infused with gangster like slang.

"Thank you Mrs Lewis" was followed by a shy smile as he walked into the room. The door was shut behind him. Simon stared shocked for a moment and then composed himself. The boy sat down on the edge of the bed and Simon pulled his books out again spreading them in the no mans land between them. They stared at each other, Simon had no idea what to say.

"Magnus mentioned that you were struggling with demonology, its probably because you skipped class" He smiled softly almost hesitantly at Simon "I can probably be of some help if you need it?"

"Urm, ye' sure" Simon reach out to find the demonology text book in the pile at the same time as Alec did, their hands met over the book. Alec blushed and pulled his hand away, Simon resisted the urge to pull his away also and instead picked up the book.

"Well I was mostly struggling on translating the language so that I could read the spells and enchantments" Simon cleared his throat.

"That's not that hard I am sure you'll pick it up in no time" Even as he said it Alec looked skeptical. "Whats your strongest subject area?"

"At the moment" Simon looked down at the books "Probably Runes, but even that's not perfect"

"But that's one of the most important subjects, it'll take up a larger section of the exam" Alec smiled out of habit. Simon couldn't help but smile back, it was nice to have someone to pick him up and tell him he wasn't failing miserably. But when he thought of the final exam and how close it was his stomach churned uncomfortably.
