Simon sat and watched from the corner of the room, sweat building on his forehead and coating every inch of his body. The atmosphere growing closer and the air thickening with every second that passed. He was grateful for the break he was being allowed, slouching down into the walls.
She was relentless, slicing and hacking into thin air. Graceful but deadly. Simon wanted to shut his eyes, to rest completely; but she unknowingly held his gaze. Strangely he felt all of his being drawn towards her as she moved across the floor.
At first, her technique had seemed frantic and rushed compared with the long, smooth, sure strokes of Jace. However, the more he absorbed her figure and gave the patterns time to form the more he realized that every move was calculated and precise. Mesmerized Simon watched as his girlfriend danced with her invisible demons. It was beautiful.
An all encompassing feeling suddenly smothered Simon; he needed to be closer to her. To help her fight away whatever demons might cross her path. All the doubts that had massed in his mind towards becoming a shadow hunter, about entering into this life of violence, training, discipline, loss, seemed somehow worth it.
'I watch my brothers give their hearts away and think, don't you know better? Hearts are breakable. And I think even when you heal you're never what you were before.' His senses overloaded with the whisper of a memory. Like a flashback to another life, he felt himself struck with a deep longing to fix the girl before him to hold her so close her heart wouldn't be able to brake. His focus had been torn away from Izzy and he sank into the opportunity to escape the training room and allow the memory and the feeling it dragged with it to subside.
Listening instead, to the feather light footfalls, the unavoidable sound movement of air makes. Then into the near silence the crack of a whip, chaotic at first and then settling into a steady regular rhythm. He allowed himself to relax fully to let himself be pulled under by the musical current Izzy created. Dancing to her own song, he smiled at that thought; a half smile just to himself.
The music stopped, before his eyes opened again he knew what would happen. A gentle hand slid into place cradling his jaw into his neck, filling an empty space he didn't know he had. He knew where she would be and how she would look, without looking. She would be crouched down, not knelt, light and coiled like a spring, one hand on his knee for support even though she didn't need it. Her frame fit perfectly into the gap between his legs, where he was sat on the floor knees bent up. He chose not to open his eyes.
Slowly he felt her move shifting her weight, tipping into him. Their lips met softly. Simon tipped himself back slightly, cunning, knowing that it would move her off balance. It did and she fell onto his chest, his arms wrapping around her like a cage. She was breathing heavy and she was too hot and sticky from dancing with the invisible demons but he held onto her anyway.
They waited like that, intertwined seamlessly, for her to catch her breath. Simon's own body was thankful for the rest and her warmth as he started to cool down from his work out, his sweat filled clothes becoming heavy and sapping the heat from him. He shivered as the cold ran itself down his spine.
Izzy ran her hand up and down his side at first then her fingers hooked under the bottom of his T-shirt. He knew she understood, the same thing was happening to her, the sweat cooling and the clothes starting to cling and drain away heat. Shifting her weight from on top of him she slid off the garment and tossed it to the floor. Kissing him softly again. Simon smiled with his eyes still closed his hands slid from her back and down to her waist then her hips. She stayed completely still, it felt as though time had stopped as he pulled her black top over her head and tossed it to the side with his.
All at once time started again, Izzy collapsed down onto him, she kissed his neck, his chest. Her hands caressing his bare sticky skin. Simon laid completely still, his hands like stone bound to her waist. She settled into him her head resting on his shoulder. She exhaled, her breath tickled his ear and he tried not to shiver but couldn't manage to stop himself.
Simon opened his eyes and found himself staring at the ceiling. He had never wanted to be a Shadow hunter more than in this moment, he was sure of it.
They heard the latch click on the oak doors. Simon groaned as a group of people walked in. Izzy didn't move pinning Simon to the ground.
"Oh, by the angel" Alec huffed. He was scowling, Simon knew he would be scowling.
"Are they dead?" Someone asked, it was Clary.
"I don't think so" Jace replied.
"I can kick them and find out for definite, if you like" Magnus sniggered. The gangs all here Simon thought to himself rolling his eyes.
"Ah, there you go. Not dead after all" Jace said as Izzy made a move to get up. Simon followed her feeling awkward and annoyed.
"Does nobody knock now?" She asked looking pointedly at Alec.
"This is a training room!" He exclaimed, exasperated. He waved his hands as he huffed.
"But training for what?" Magnus raised an eyebrow and fixed his hair in the mirror. Jace laughed and put Clary, who had been piggy backing, down on the floor carefully. She bounded over to Simon and tapped on his bare stomach.
"Jace has been training you well you're even getting abs" She smiled at him and then at Jace.
"We are leaving now before you feel any more of my boyfriend." Izzy grabbed Simon's hand and dragged him out of the training room, slamming the doors behind them.
