Lainey rushed down the empty hallway. Her backpack hung from one shoulder as she tried to balance the books in her arms. She was going to be late. Again. Great, just great.
As Lainey opened the door to her English class she had already prepared herself for the look Mr. Kelly would give her. "Miss Markus, you've successfully managed to be late every day this week."Lainey nodded and muttered an empty, "Sorry," before taking her seat. She tried to ignore the snickering coming from some of her classmates, but the blush dusting her cheeks showed otherwise. She quickly pulled out her notebook and pen as she waited for Mr. Kelly to begin his lesson.
There was a tap on Lainey's shoulder, which caused her to turn and lock eyes with Jackie, "Late again, Princess? Mommy and Daddy must be so disappointed that they're perfect little girl has been late every day this week."
Lainey's blush deepened, which caused Jackie's smirk to widen, "Did I say something to upset you, princess?"
Before Lainey could retort, Mr. Kelly called for the class' attention. The rest of the period went without much incident. Lainey scribbled away in her notebook as Jackie stared off into space, not caring for whatever was being taught.
After fourth period Lainey was at her locker switching out her science book for her math. She looked down the hall and saw Jackie, she quickly averted her eyes.
"Hey, Red," Jackie leaned against the lockers with a smirk on her lips.
"Hi, Jackie," she blushed.
Jackie and Lainey could not have been more different from each other. Lainey was soft and quiet, while Jackie was loud and edgy. Lainey couldn't help the blush that crept onto her cheeks whenever the black haired girl was near.Just as Jackie brought a hand up to tuck a stray piece of hair out of Lainey's face, someone was walking towards them in the hallway. Luckily, for Lainey, they hadn't seen the two of them.
"I have to get to class," Lainey rushed.
Jackie's hand dropped to her side, "Of course you do," she sighed. Lainey gave her a look before shutting her locker door and walking away.
After the last bell rang, Lainey made a beeline for the parking lot. She scanned the lot before she spotted the car she was looking for. She quickly made her way and climbed into the car."Hey, how was sch-," Jackie was cut off by Lainey's lips on hers. Jackie's surprise was gone in a matter of seconds, the kiss was soft, sweet.
"I've wanted to do that all day," Lainey said once they pulled away.Jackie brushed a stray piece of behind her ear, like she had wanted to do earlier in the hall, "I know, Lay, I know."
"I'm sorry about what happened before," Lainey blushed in embarrassment."No, no. Don't apologize love," Jackie smiled halfheartedly. "I just... I understand."
"I can't wait until we get out of here," Lainey sighed. She reached for Jackie's hand and intertwined their fingers.
"Then," Lainey continued with a smile, "I'll be able to tell everyone about my adorable punk girlfriend."
Jackie pulled out of the school parking lot. She laughed, "And I can't wait to tell everyone about my cute, nerdy girlfriend."
Lainey smiled, "I can't wait." She reached over and planted a small kiss on Jackie's cheek.
Jackie blushed, which seemed out of place from her rough exterior. But, that's what Lainey loved about her. She looked like this tough rocker who'd beat you up in an ally for looking at her in the wrong way, but Lainey knew that that's not who she really was.
Well, yes she'd beat you up but she was also the world's biggest softie. Which made Lainey's heart melt once she got to know her, but that's a story for another day.
As Jackie drove Lainey home neither of them could stop the small smiles that settled on their faces, they enjoyed each other's company. No matter what was said to them, or about them, nothing could ever change the way they felt.
