Its Friday. One day before we are suppose to go to the mall and go shopping. At our lunch table it's just Amanda, Jess, Josh and I. I want to go to the mall because I want a social life and I'm already, sort of, kind of, a little, friends with these people.
“Jen and John wanna meet you guys tomorrow before we go to the mall.” I said like it was nothing. But, all of them acted like it was something. The way they all stared made me shift uncomfortably in my seat.
“You call your parents-” Josh started speaking but I cut him off
“They’re not my parents...” I said choking on the words. “They’re my foster parents” I blinked away the tears that threatened to spill over my eyes every time I thought about my parents.
“Why do you live with foster parents?” Amanda asked.
Josh looked at me, I guess seeing the tears that nearly fell over my eyes he says “We only have ten minutes to get to class lets go get our books.” I look at him and smile a smile that was meant to say “thanks” and he gave me one of those half smiles that almost looked like a smile to say “no problem”
It was Saturday and my friends were outside waiting to meet Jen and John. I ran down over the stairs my hair in a messy, yet cute, pony tail.
“JEN! JOHN! MY FRIENDS ARE HERE TO MEET YOU!” I yelled.
“Well, let them in nimrod don't make 'em wait outside” said Nick as he opened the door. “Hi, I'm Nick, Steph's brother A.K.A hot and available.” he said as he winked at Amanda and Jess.
They both laughed and Jess said “Hi, I'm Jess, Steph's friend A.K.A hot and not interested.” I laughed at Nick as he blushed but laughed too.
“Don't take it personally Buddy,” Josh said ruffling Nick's hair “I've been friend zoned for years now.”
“Wow, Josh,” I said “Nick probably has better game than that.” Everyone laughed except Josh I told them they could all take off their shoes and come sit down.
I put Nick in a headlock and dragged him down the hall way and into the living room, where he sat on the couch next to me. Josh sat on my other side and Amanda and Jess shared the chair that Nick and I usually fought over. We all sat there in awkward silence waiting for John and Jen to join us.
John walked in first, saw the three of us girls and then look at Josh and said “Nice!” giving him a high five.
“John!” I said with a voice that was meant to say shut up, stop embarrassing me and sit down. Jen walked in and sat next to John on the love seat.
“Hi, I’m Jen, and this is my husband John” she said “We're Stephanie's and Nick's foster parents.” I cringed at her using my full name.
“Hi, I'm Amanda, and this is Jessica or Jess whatever you end up saying, but she prefers Jess. And this is Josh the loser we tag along everywhere.” Amanda said, gesturing towards Jess and Josh smiling when she added in that last part. After some small talk, Jen had gotten us all some ice cream we all left and went to the mall.
“Your foster parents seem nice.” said Jess, while we were all in change rooms and Josh waited outside to tell us what he thought of our outfits. Manly right? I kind of started to wonder if he was gay.
“Yeah they’re nice. It's different but its not all bad.” I said before realizing what I said didn’t make complete sense, but if anyone noticed they didn’t say anything.
“Your foster brother Nick's pretty cool too.” Josh said. I laughed a little.
“No, I'm actually related to the little runt, he's my little bro... saved my life once.” I heard someone start to say how but I cut them off and said “but, I don't really like talking about it I don’t know why I even brought it up.”
“Well, at least you’re talking now.” said Amanda and we all laughed and started making jokes about as long as I don’t start talking as much as her.
After shopping we went to buy some food. While we were eating... seemingly out of no where, Amanda just says “if you ever need to talk I'm here.” and Jess and Josh nodded there heads in unison. I wonder what she was thinking about.
When I got home I told Nick that Josh thought he was cool and that they should shoot hoops or play ball sometime. When Nick looked at me with a quizzical expression I said “His words not mine.”
I go upstairs and get ready for bed. It was later that night, I was sleeping and I heard a scream come from Nick's room.
~Sorry I know the chapters are really short I'm going to try to make the next ones a little bit longer.~
