I look up at Logan unsure of what he was talking about. He then sits down, great he's going to stay. I don't have a problem with Logan but there was something about that always bothered me... it's probably the fact that he kept telling me I'm going to kill him and the graduation day he came up to me and said you were the death of me. He just weirded me out thats why I never wanted to tutor him.
"So, how is your relationship?" Logan questions. "It's great alhamdulillah," Tarik smiles looking at me. "Logan did you ever pass Calc?" I decide to ask. He looks at me and smiles "yeah... thanks to you."
"So, you just decide not to invite me to your wedding?" Logan asks looking at Tarik. "I'm sorry, I couldn't reach you... I tried and then I tried Chris," Tarik says.
"So what happened to you... I see crutches," Logan says. "Car accident but everything is okay now," Tarik smiles. I tap my nails on the table, how can you simply have a conversation with this kid, he chances the subject every second. This is one reason I couldn't help him in calc it pissed me off. Final Logan gets up to leave which felt like forever.
"What was that about?" Tarik asks me. "What?" I ask as if I didn't know what he was talking about. "You and Logan?" he questions. I was not about to tell him I don't like his best friend so I smile and say nothing. Tarik stares at me unsure. I was going to ask him how he was able to be his friend then realized how mean I would sound. I was ready to go home.
We eat and head to the car. We get home and greeted. We go to the living room and sit down. And guess who was in there staring at the TV. Khalil as always no wonder why he's not married this kid never leave the TV unoccupied. He looks up at us and says "Salaam Tarik," and turns back to the TV. Tarik glances at me and I just shrug.
"Hey man you want to play soccer. You know after you heal," Khalil says finally turn the TV off and giving it a break. "Hey, Khalil why don't you go out and do something with your life," I smirk rolling my eyes. "Little sister... why don't you learn to shut up," he smirks crossing his arms to his chest. "No... I'm actually serious why don't you go out and do something other than watching soccer everyday," I tell him not trying to start an argument. He laughs and walks off.
"You and your brother have problems," he says. Of course we are siblings I wanted to say but decided not to. "I'm home," Alia runs into the living room. It was first day of school for her. "How was school?" I ask as she sits nexts to me. "It was ok, but there was a new kid and he tried to prank the teacher and got in trouble," she says pulling out her folder. "Can you help me with long division?" she asks pulling out her homework. We sit at the coffee table and work through the questions together.
After we finish Alia gives me a hug and runs off to her room. The door opens and I see Amina and Adam run in. "Where's your parents?" I ask them. "Dad's at work and mom has to go shopping," Adam says. "Grocery shopping," Amina adds. "How was school?" I ask them. "It was stupid," Adam says. "School is not stupid," I tell him. "School is stupid," Taik says. I look at him and hit his shoulder playfully. "See Uncle Tarik agrees," Adam smiles. "I agree with Auntie Yasmin, school is fun it's not stupid," Amina says. "Thank you Mina," I say picking her up and giving her a hug.
"Boys are stupid too," I whisper to her. "We can hear you," Tarik says. I smile at him. "Yeah boys go to jupiter to get more stupider and girls go to college to get more smarter," Amina says, I stare at her I didn't know kids still say that and besides she said it wrong. "Don't you mean knowledge," I tell her. "Yup, " she says giving me a kiss on the cheek and jumping off. "I want a kiss," Tarik says. "Noooo," Amina laughs. "Here," I say kissing him on the cheek. "Ewww girls have cooties," Adam says. I couldn't help but laugh. Adam goes up to Tarik and wipes his cheek. Tarik breaks out laughing and picks up Adam.
They were so adorable. I remember I use to say that when I was younger I just thought kids stop saying that. Alia comes back and sits down next to me. "Hi twins," she smiles. "Didn't Ahmed go to school?" I ask Alia. "Yeah, he finally started college," she says staring at Amina. I don't know why she did that all the time. Amina throws something at Alia. "Hey Mina stop," I say. "She keeps staring at me," Amina cries. I pick her up. "Alia, leave her alone," I say. Alia rolls her eyes "if she don't want people to look at her she can go into the woods," she smirks. "Alia," I say annoyed by her attitude. She sighs and apologizes.
Two weeks later Tarik had another doctors appointment but he insists he goes alone since I was left to watch kids. "You know we are grown," Alia says. "Yeah, but you are a troublemaker," I tell her. "You don't trust me?" she questions rising her eyebrows. "No, no one trusts you," I tell her. She just laughs taking the remote. She puts in a Hindi movie. I throw the pillow at her. "Yasmin, you are a bully," she says sarcastically. Ahmed walks in the room. No one trust him to watch Alia because last time he left her at home alone because his friends called him to watch some stupid movies. "Salaam," he says wearing nothing but boxer. "Ahmed put on clothes," ALia demands. "You can't see anything," he says sitting on the sofa using his phone.
There was knocking at the door and Alia runs to answer it. "Tarik... is back with no crutches!" she yells. I get up and see that he was no walking on his own. "Alhamdulillah you are walking on your own again," I smile. "I have to show you someone," he says. I look behind him and no one was there, I look at him confused. "Not here at the orphanage," he smiles. "Yeah, we have to bring Alia... Ahmed is irresponsible," I state. "Ok," he simply says. Alia gets hyped up and grabs her shoes and hijab.
We drive to the orphanage having to listen to Alia's singing in the back. She said she was going to be on the Voice or America's got Talent. I don't think she'll make it that far but she had an okay voice. I know Alia is scared to talk in front of people let alone sing.
We finally get there and head inside. Tarik was greeted by a little girl with curly brown hair and amber colored eyes. "Tha," she says hugging him as he picks her up. She was so adorable. "Gavin is back and he look bad," she says sadly. He stares at he. "Where is he?" Tarik questions.
