"You know that boy Tarik likes you... he asked me to tell you he wants to get to know you," Khalil says as he starts driving away from the mosque. Does he take me as a foul, why would someone like Tarik like me. "You're joking right... cause it is not funny," I roll my eyes. "Honestly Yaz," he says with a serious face. "Why me?" I question. Khalil just smiles. "So, he wants to get to know me... like in marriage?" I question again feeling my face burn up. "Yeah," he simply replies. "So do you want to get to know him?" Khalil asks. "I have to ask him questions first," I state.
We stop at the park where Ahmed, Lilia, Jay which is short for Jafar and Sadia with her kids were waiting. I drag Lilia to the side to tell her the news and this time we both squealed. "This is great mashallah I'm happy for you," she says. "It didn't even happen yet," I state as we swing back and forth on the swings. "But he asked to get to know you so he can ask for your hand in marriage," Lilia states. "Yeah, but that's weird no one ever likes me... come on I'm me. A nerd really?" I say with sigh.
We spent the day at the park we even prayed Asr there cause the kids wanted to play. We all started playing soccer which was a mess. We had to be careful not hurt the little kids and I kept tripping over my skirt. I gave up after I fell the third time on my own.
"You really giving up?" Ahmed says giving up and sitting next to me. I glance at him gesturing that he quit too. "I have asama," he states with a smirk. "Ok," I say. "So, how are you doing... didn't get to talk to you after what happen," he says. "I'm ok... I'm over that," I tell him. He nods with a smile "that dude did not deserve you," he says. "I know," I smile. We both start laughing.
"When are you going to get married?" I question. "I'm 19," he states. "So," I say. "When Khalil gets married," he jokes. We both laugh because Khalil doesn't even look like he's going to get married for a long time, he's still a child inside. "Let's go back to the game," Ahmed insist. "Ok, little brother," I stand up. "I miss saying that," I say messing up his her while I stand on my tippy toe cause now he was taller than me. "I'm not that little anymore," he smiles.
We played and bought dinner on the way home. We salaam our parents as we head in. Lilia, Ahmed, Khalil, Saida, and Yusuf who was Saida's husband. They all come into my room. We usually just sit around while our parents watch the little kids. I pull out uno cards. I set it up and we all get ready to start. "So, Yaz," Saida says. I look at her from the corner of my eyes as I play my turn. "What?" I ask looking at her.
"Someone is grumpy," she says. I swear Saida always does this... she calls my name and everytime I say what she acts as if I'm grumpy. Every Time I know she has news she wants to share. "What's up?" I ask. "Oh, nothing," she says. I just shrug. "But... Uno!" She yells as if she won. Everyone rolls their eyes. "Babe, you didn't win," Yusuf says. She glances at him as if he was stupid. We all break out laughing. It goes around again. "I'm sorry babe but uno out," Yusuf says making Saida draw eight. I break out laughing. I was laughing so hard because of Saida's face she was pissed off. She took everything seriously.
"Yazzy shut up," Saida says. I stop, I hated when people call me that. I throw my cards on the ground and stare at her with my arms crossed to my chest. "Ok," Ahmed says. "As much as I love both of you... I'm put 20 on Saida," Ahmed says. I look at him with my mouth wide open. "Sorry... I said I love you," he says.
Khalil's phone beeps. He glances at it and looks up at me.
