The next morning, I wake up with a very bad headache. I grab a toothbrush and start brushing my teeth vigorously, trying to remove the taste of last night's alcohol. Mum was like a ninja when it came to scents, if she could even smell the tiniest whiff of something that was not coffee, water, juice or a fizzy drink she would easily trap me in the house and make me home schooled forever.
I stare at my messy blonde hair in a heap on top of my head and sigh. If only it could magically transform into neat hairstyles every day, life would be so much easier then.
I go downstairs and make a smoothie.
Suddenly I see a bright light flashing into the kitchen. It blinks three times, then it stops, and then it flashes again. I go over to the window to see someone is reflecting the sunlight into the kitchen window. As I try to a catch a glimpse of who it is, I see a small mirror being pulled down to show a boy, a specifically annoying boy who has a huge smirk planted onto his face. Hunter. I walk outside onto the front lawn and stare at him with an eyebrow raised.
"What the heck are you doing?" I grunt.
"Trying to get your attention. I just wanted to apologise about yesterday." Suddenly the memory of last night floods back into my mind.
"How do you even know where I live, you creepy stalker." I yell.
"Erm, I may or may not have asked your friend where you lived whilst I apologised to her on the phone. She kind of gave me her number yesterday." A cheesy boyish grins spreads on Hunters face.
"Well I don't want to hear your apology. You really hurt Sadie yesterday." I huff, still grumpy from just waking up.
"I know I really didn't know she was that upset, it's all still a little blurry if I'm honest, but she accepted my apology. And I also know that I upset you, so I need to apologise. Look I'm not really the type to beg for forgiveness so why don't I treat you to coffee or something?" Hunter suggests.
"Haven't you ever heard of stranger danger?" I ask him.
"C'mon, I sit next to you in science, we are not exactly strangers. You can choose wherever you want to go. Please." He says, with slight desperation. I sigh, the things I do for food.
"You wait out here, I'll be right back." I walk home, and quickly change my slippers into some flats and take peppermint spray just in case he does try to do anything else.
I lock the door after writing a brief note on the kitchen table that said I was going out. I turn around and marvel at how Hunter is leaning onto his car with one knee up, the wind blowing in his hair and his dark shades on, it looked like a scene from a movie.
"Alright, let's go to the big M." I say, trying to get rid of last the thought I had.
"Big M as in McDonald's." His quirks an eyebrow up.
"The one and only, I'm carving a double cheese burger."
"Have you even had breakfast yet?" I shrug in response, I know that burgers for breakfast weren't exactly ideal, but when a guy is treating you to free food you don't just go for cereal.
"You must have some crazy high metabolism." He mutters under his breath whilst holding out the door for me to get in.
"I heard that." I say whilst sitting down. I'm instantly surround with rich, luxurious brown leather seats and a very expensive looking radio station. I hadn't really given any notice to Hunter's car, but it made my old plain flannel and jeans feel inappropriate.
The way to McDonald's was surprisingly very amusing as Hunter babbled on about the rest of the party which I missed and that next time when he'd annoy me he'd watch out for my jabbing knee.
