Chapter 20

"When I saw him with you, I wanted to tell you everything about his secret, you have to believe me. But Drake made me swear that I couldn't tell anyone, and I couldn't betray him like that- you have to understand. " Hunter continues, the urgency in his voice made me stop, and go back to his side. 

"Drake told me if I told anyone, Ryan would make sure he would do anything and everything to ruin my life, he told me to stay low and away from him. Sadly, that meant to stay away from you too." Hunter takes a deep breath, I didn't know whether it was cause of his physical pain or what he was this secret. I let him take his breath, and wait for him to continue.

"But stupid me didn't listen, and I went straight up to him and I told him I knew.  He told me he loved you, and that it was a 'phase' and that I was just ruining things by bringing up his secret and being selfish because I wanted to have you. I told him he wasn't being fair on you, but he forced me, by threatening me, to believe that he was in love with you. And I did, cause I had no other choice, until now. When I arrived unexpectedly to his party, I accidentally witnessed him and his little secret, I couldn't  believe that he lied, but most importantly to you." Hunter stares at me with complete sadness. I didn't know where this was going, but I knew that this secret was going to crush me, the worst part was that everyone seemed to know it apart from me, even Drake.

"Ryan then did what he always does, he beat me up, as hard as he could and threw me on the lawn like trash. I think it was his sister that picked me up and put me on this bed. Jade, you can't find him, cause in the end it's going to hurt you the most. I was just trying to protect you, I thought he had changed. If you find out his secret, god knows what he'll do to you- just let him be, honestly it's the best thing to do." Hunter stares at me in alarm, but I needed to see what this secret was, everything he said had made me so nervous, I was shaking. 

I quickly rush out of the room, ignoring Hunter's advice. I go into the final third room , I could hear it was another couple making out, but it was in total darkness. I was about to walk straight out, when I heard someone say Ryan's name. My heart started to quicken its pace, and it was becoming so heavy to carry. I turned back around and fumbled in the dark to fight a light switch. Once I finally found it, I wish that I hadn't. I wished that I listened to Hunter, I wished that I was still that naive girl who was head over heels in love with a guy that she thought was superman. I had finally found Ryan's secret. Suddenly my heart became so heavy, that I immediately sank to my feet.

I stare dumbfounded at Ryan, my prefect easy-going boyfriend. The guy who came around every Friday for movie nights, who kissed me in his car, who said he liked me for so long. 

He was passionately kissing a boy, someone I faintly recognised. But I could tell by the muscular tones in his body, identical to Ryan that he was also on the basket ball team. 

Frozen near the switch light, I look at them eagerly kissing each other, it was obvious to see that they saw each other often. So that's where he went off to, on those late night basketball practices, the reason why he couldn't kiss me for more than 5 seconds, because he hated it.

Ryan isn't in love with me, he's in love with him.

Suddenly the boys come out of their love trance and notice me gawping at them. Ryan quickly retrieves his shirt laying frailly on the floor, and quickly starts to button them up. When he looks again at the horror in my eyes, he punches the Unknown boy.

"Why-why were you kissing me! I'm not like that- I have a girlfriend-" Ryan is going in for another punch when suddenly he stops because of high pitched, bloodcurdling scream. He immediately drops the boy and comes running towards me, that's when I realise I'm screaming, crying, and dying inside.
