It was yet another grizzly monday morning, but I woke up with a strange smile planted on my face. It had been two weeks since myself and Hunter started our project and spending so much time with Hunter had started to have its effects on me. It was weird, but I hadn't felt so alive in ages. I actually couldn't wait for school to start so I could see his upbeat face once again, and it wasn't like it was ugly to look at in the first place. At lunch time I would see him hang around with a bunch of boys, and although I pretend to listen to Sadie go on about James, I couldn't help but hope his gaze would meet mine and when it does that he gives me a quick wink acknowledging my presence like he had done so many times before. Like we had a little secret that no-one else knew and it felt wonderful, god knows why.
Today I was walk into the library alone for lunch as Sadie has a violin lesson, leaving me all by myself. I look around for any signs of anyone else I knew. Okay, I was looking for Hunter, I had gotten so used to it that I did it subconsciously. Instead I saw Ryan, and my stomach churned abruptly. I stare at him but he acts as if he doesn't know that I exist, I had glanced at him so many times, but he never seemed to even care to give me a second glance. Yet again I was even more confused on what our meeting was, why he was playing with my feelings. I wondered on whether today was the day I confronted him, but my legs walk me away from the table he was sitting on coolly, a leg on a chair, and a hand raking through his curly locks, laughing with all the other basketballers looking as dreamy as ever. I take a seat furthest away from any humans, and take my phone out with some head phones. An acoustic cover of Teenage dream by Katy Perry plays and I stare at the words in front of me on a book that I had taken off a shelf.
I couldn't concentrate at all, I just had to wrap my head around the idea that there are guys, specifically hot guys that wanted to be friends with me. There was Ryan who started off like he had taken an interest, yet he hid away from me like a child scared of a clown. But it was different with Hunter, his playful flirting and random times of sweeter moments made him irresistible. I just wanted to talk to him all the time, It felt nice to think that someone else than my family and Sadie and Lucy that actually thought I was interesting. I know it sounded sad but it was the truth. I start doodling on the book, I know it's bad but who wants to read about the history of nail polish?
Suddenly I feel cold, firm fingers that cover my glasses and squeezes my eyelids shut and a waft of strong peppermint. My ear plugs are dropped and I hear someone whisper in my ear, "Guess who, Goldy?" I smile instantaneously, lacing my hands on top of his to loosen his grip off my glasses.
"'Goldy' gave it away Hunter." I reply, the fingers are taken away, but are still placed in my palms. My sight restored I was able to see Hunter and his infectious sheepish smile. He crouches next to me although there is a seat right next to me, his beautifully placed light hazel-blonde hair and his evident as ever silver metallic ring on his lip reminding how different we were. They all just added to his alluring charm.
"If you keep staring at me like that, I won't be able to keep myself from throwing those glasses onto the ground and start full on making out with you, Goldy." I look at Hunter, who seems to be smirking. I register what he says, and quickly take my hands away from his grip, I push him so he falls over.
"I was-was- not staring at you." I stammer, blushing very hard. Hunter laughs at my obliviousness, and comes over to the seat next to me.
"Plus it's snog." I mutter under my breath, but just my luck that he hears me.
"Sorry, what?" Hunter asks me.
"Here in the UK, we do not 'make out'," I drawl in my attempt of an American accent, "We snog." I say matter of factly.
