"It started four years ago. I'd seen you're friend Lucas here out on patrol almost every night. You don't need to know how it happened, but we started spending time together," The girl starts talking, and I shoot daggers at her. She either doesn't notice or doesn't care.
"He knew what we were going to do when I asked him to help us. He knew the risks, too. Knew that he would never be saved if he was discovered. He didn't care. He told us your people's secrets. Told us what your eyes mean. That your eyes, being as red as blood, mean that you are angry--furious. Ready to kill."
"Well, no fucking duh!" I exclaim. I look at Lucas, who has come out from behind the rock, now. The boy and the girl are standing in front of him as if they can protect him. "I can't believe you."
"Let Lundyn finish," he says. "You don't know our side of the story."
"Your side?" I scoff, letting out a loud laugh that isn't real. "You're on their side? You are such a fucking traitor!"
"Enough!" the boy says. "Let her finish, girl. We don't have to explain ourselves to you. Be glad we didn't kill you on sight."
I turn my gaze to him, and I see him take a small step back. I grin, showing my sharp teeth. "Scared, boy? You should be. Be glad I didn't kill all of you the minute I saw you."
"You wouldn't have," Lucas says. "Please, just let her finish."
I cross my arms and return my glare to her. "Fine."
"Thank you," she says. "Once I had the information I needed, entered your land. We knew your weaknesses thanks to Lucas here. Your people suspected us immediately, of course. Without him, we wouldn't have killed the hundred or so guards on the outskirts of your land."
I growl at her, my eyes turning to so dark a red they look almost black. She flips her hair and grins at me, and I can see that she's enjoying herself immensely. "After we were through them, and we got to your town, we were absolutely grateful that you had wasted all of your forces on the beginning of our assault.
"We got to the middle of the town killing everything in sight. I remember each and every one of my kills. They barely put up a fight. I had thought you Infinites were some kind of warrior race, but you're not very good fighters." She grins at me, her teeth a flash of white. I want to lunge forward and strangle her. I don't. My eyes are now completely black, the anger radiating though my veins like fire. "I remember one little girl. She was beautiful. Black, raven-like hair. Her eyes were as yellow as the sun. She was flawless until she touched me.
"Her skin burned me and I went into a frenzy. I cut her throat. Then--off with her head. Her blood ran as thickly as syrup. She looked just like you."
I can't move. My skin burns and my eyes are hot--hotter than usual. So hot that I can feel it. My sister. My sister. She murdered my sister. Now, she's taunting me with her death. "I'll kill you," I say. "I'll burn you and everyone you love to the ground! How dare you say that!"
I lunge for her, ready to tear her throat out. Suddenly Lucas is behind me, holding me back, away from his friend that killed my sister. She lets out a loud, taunting laugh as I whip back around to fight off Lucas. But then the boy is on me. I'm so angry I can't fight them off.
They pin me to the ground and Lucas holds me down as I buck beneath him. The girl is above me and smiling down at me with fake kindness. "Goodnight," she says, and then she swings her foot toward my head.
