"God..." I mutter. My head aches. I go to move my hand to my head, but find that I can't move it. My eyes snap open. I try to move my other hand, but I can't. Something cold is wrapped around both my hands, ankles, and around my neck. "What the hell...?"
"Nice to see you're awake." The voice is high and clear. Like a new razor. Londyn.
"Be nice. She might kill you, otherwise." This voice makes me eyes widen. I turn my head and see a boy with light brown hair down to his shoulders. High and defined cheek bones make him one of the more beautiful Infinites.
"Oh, I'll kill you anyway, Terry, if you don't let me up right now." I hear a high laugh and look to the other side. Londyn is standing there, her arm slung over Lucas's shoulders. I glare at her.
"Hey, precious," she says. "Take a picture. It'll last longer."
"Go fuck yourself," I snarl at her. She laughs and looks at Lucas.
"You were right."
Lucas rolls his eyes and removes her arm from his shoulders. He moves over to me and smiles, his teeth white as snow. "Hey, Infinity. How are you doing?"
"Fucking spectacular!" I exclaim. "It's not like I'm tied down to a table or anything." He chuckles lightly.
I glare at him. My glare does nothing for him, but the boy from the woods backs up again. "Infinity, you need our help."
I let out a high, bark like laugh. "And why would I need your help?" I sneer.
"You need our help," the girl says, coming to stand next to me, "because if you don't have it, you might as well slit your own throat."
I raise my eyebrows at her. "And why would I do that?" Suicide is one of the biggest insults of our people, saying that you are not happy with your life there. Suicide once you are saved is saying that you are not happy with the lands choices. People who commit suicide are often burned by the walls surrounding our land.
"Because of this," Lucas says, and reaches to touch the side of my neck. I want to pull back, away from his hand, the the restraints stop me.
When his hand touches the side of my neck, pain rips through my body. Hot and intense, like the sun. I clench my jaw and ball my hands up into fist, but it's still not enough to stifle my groan of pain. Lucas turns to Londyn and says something. She lets out a laugh, tilting her head back. I can't hear it through the pain. It's the most intense pain I've felt in years, since the Extras invaded our lands.
Slowly, the ringing starts to leave my ears. I see that, for some reason, Lucas's eyes are slightly red. "What...the hell...did you do to me?" I pant. My eyes turn red with rage as I ask the question.
"It's an electronic chip," the boy from before says. "Any pressure applied to it will cause a...small electric shock increasing in power each time pressure is applied to it. If you try to cut it out, not only will you slit your own throat, but the chip will burrow farther into the flesh, causing great pain. If you continue to try to remove it, it will rip through the other side of your throat, killing you."
I'm even angrier now. How dare they do this. First they knock me out, then they tie me down and plant a chip in my neck!? My head is swimming. I don't let them see my confusion by turning my head to the other side. "And why would you put this chip in my neck?" I look at Terry. Does he have a chip, too? Is that why he is here?
Terry was 12, one year older than me, when the Extras attacked our land. He watched his mother die, and swore that if he ever saw the Extra that killed her, he would kill everyone he loved and leave them alone, like they did him. We used to be good friends, and when we practiced fighting on each other, we would go on for hours until one of us finally collapsed from exhaustion. Surely he can't be here of his own free will.
"Because we want information. And you can get it," Londyn says.
"And what makes you think that, even if I could, I would get you information?"
"Because, if you don't, you will never get her back." Her? What do they mean her?
"Who are you talking about?" In response to my question, Londyn snaps her fingers twice. The doors behind her open up and a little girl walks in. She looks about 9 years old and has the golden hair that runs in my family. The raven hair that both my little sisters had. The hair that I have.
I let out a tiny gasp. "No..." I whisper, physically unable to do or say anything else.
The little girl is Aaliyah, my little sister that went missing four years ago. My entire family, save myself, was pronounced dead the day after the invasion. My mother and father had been stabbed through the stomach. My 5 year old sister had been decapitated. And Aaliyah's body had been missing. Though no one said it, everyone thought that she had run, and gotten killed, her body burning at the wall.
