"What do you mean, 'half Infinite?'" Andrew says. An Infinite and an Extra have never had a child together. Not that we know of, anyway. The thought of it just rubs me the wrong way. An infinite is like fire, and Extras are like paper. They are basically incompatible.

"Yeah," Aiden says. "My mom was an Infinite, my dad an Extra. The leaders were shocked when they found out. They thought I would be born dead, or something."

"But you weren't," Andrew says. "But, you said your mom was an Infinite! You would have been brought up by her, lived here your entire life. Why would you turn on your own people?"

Aiden lets out a cold, high pitched laugh, that sends shivers down my spine. "I might have been born here with the Infinites, but my allegiance has always been to the Extras. Or, as they call themselves, the Council of a Thousand--" He cuts off suddenly, his face going to white. He slams up against the back of the cage, groaning in pain. He starts to slide down, then, stopping his screaming, he sits at the bottom on the cage, breathing heavily.

I turn and look at Andrew. "What do you think that was about?" I ask.

"I'm thinking," Andrew replies, "that the Extras don't want us to know what they call themselves."

I look at Aiden again, and am startled to see his eyes a color like melted plastic. I've never seen even an Infinite with that color eyes, and I wonder what it means.

"They don't want you to know our plans," he says, his voice surprisingly strong for just collapsing in pain. "I shouldn't have even mentioned it. It's not like it'll matter, anyway. You're all going to die in about 3 hours anyway."

My eyes go wide. "What do you mean? We beat you before, and the only reason you even got close to us was because of the Ceremony! Even Extras couldn't possibly be stupid enough to try again in such a short amount of time."

"Beat us?" Aiden snorts. "As if! We killed hundreds of your kind, just like four years ago. And now, we're going to finish off the job." He starts to laugh, a little manically, and Andrew puts his arm around me, pulling me back.

"What are you going to do?" He says in a dark voice.

Aiden either doesn't hear him, or doesn't care. He continues to laugh. "Andrew, we have to get everyone out of here," I say. "We have to--"

"I know," he says, interrupting me. But we still have a lot of people in the infirmaries. It's going to take a while to get everyone on their feet."

I nod. "We'd better get going, then."

We turn and leave the room, leaving Aiden alone in his glass cage, a dark smile on his face.

A/N Sorry for the short chapter, guys. And sorry that it's been, like, a year since I've updated. I've actually forgotten about this story, but no more!
