Yuri looked at the sky. She didn't know why she had that dream, but she felt something weird in her body. It scared her.
She followed Hak and Yona, falling behind. When she did finally catch up, her head was spinning. The world was blurring out. She felt her body go limp. 'No! I don't want to sleep! Dreams will come....' And the whole world blacked out.
Yuri sat on a tree branch. 'Is this the future? I don't remember this happening before...'
'It's not the future. It's the past. I am the first generation Douryuu[1]. My name's Rena.' a soft, kind voice said in her thoughts. 'Come, go down, let's meet everybody.'
Yuri slipped off the branch and onto the floor. "Rena! Where were you? We we're looking all over for you!"
"Sorry!" Yuri felt herself say. 'What? Rena?'
'Oops. Anyway. He's the Ryokuryuu[2], Shu-Ten. The one with blue hair is the Seiryuu[3], Abi. The one with white hair is the, Hakuryuu[4], Gu-En. And the blonde, as you know, is Zeno, the Ouryuu[5].'
"Oops... Don't be mad at me." Rena pouted.
Abi walked by her. "Hey Rena... Stop it, it's annoying."
Rena sighed, twirling a lock of her orange hair. "Zeno is so much nicer..." she smiled. "So, Abi, Shu-Ten, where is Gu-En?"
"Right behind you." he said, boredom in his voice. "Zeno is right over there." he pointed his dragon claws in a 60 degree angle.
"Rena. Shu-Ten. Abi. Gu-En. Zeno." A voice said calmly.
Rena turned, giggling and chirpy. "Hey, big brother Hiryuu[6]!" 'Hiryuu?' Yuri wondered.
'Hiryuu is my big brother. Originally, we were dragons, but I followed him to the human world. My real name is Douryuu but that's a pain to say so Rena is good.'
Zeno smiled cheerfully. "Hey, Queen Rena."
Rena looked at him, annoyed. "Queen is so boring. I told you, I'm Rena." she scolded, lightly smacking his forehead with her palm.
Zeno smiled faded when he asked. "Hey, Rena?"
Rena stared at his eyes. Sensing something wrong, she grabbed his arm and called to the others. "I'll be right back. This guy needs to learn something..."
Rena ran off, dragging a confused Zeno with her. She pulled him into her room. She pulled out 2 chairs and waited for him to sit before sitting down herself. "What's wrong Zeno?"
Zeno looked into her blue eyes. "I am not suited to lead soldiers or be a tribe's head. Please ask somebody else to do it. I'm the only dragon warrior without any real powers. I'm nothing but an eyesore on the battlefield."
Rena looked into his eyes. Sadness overwhelmed her. "Idiot!" she stood up and lunged at him, wrapping her arms around his neck. "You're a dragon warrior for a reason! No one can replace you! You can lead the troupes to victory!" her eyes watered, burying her face into his clothes. She sobbed into him. When she stopped, she stood up. "Did you talk to big brother yet?"
Zeno shook his head. "All I can do is heal really quickly. I don't want to tell King Hiryuu yet."
Rena's eyes widened. "Heal quickly? Lemme see." She ran to her wardrobe, looking for something. "Found it!" she pulled out a small shard of glass. "So?"
Zeno walked over and stabbed his arm. Rena winced, grabbing the shard from him and pulling up his sleeve. "Not like that..." her voice became inaudible as she stared at the wound. It was healing... No blood, no nothing. Rena stood up. She wrapped her arms around him in a crushing embrace. "I'm so sorry, Zeno. I'm so sorry, Zeno. I'm so sorry, Zeno." repeating herself over and over again.
Zeno pulled away. "Why?"
Rena pulled something off her wrist. "Zeno. I want you to keep this." she handed him a gold bracelet with 5 dragons on it. His eyes widened. "But..."
Rena forced it into his hand. "When I followed big brother Hiryuu from the Heavens, the dragons parted with me by giving me this. I'm giving it to you. As long as you wear it, it means I'll always be there for you, with you. Take care of it, okay?"
Zeno stared in shock. "But, Rena."
The whole scene blurred away. 'Yuri, you may not know of Zeno's powers but it scares me, still. Zeno will never scare me but his powers are like a curse. I need you to help him. I'm entrusting him to you...'
Yuri cried out, 'Wait!'
Yuri opened her eyes. She sat up. 'Rena entrusted me with something... I don't even know who Zeno is! I'm so lame.' Yuri looked out the window. The sky was so blue. 'But... I have to. I need to. I swear on my life, I will help him, Zeno...'
She turned to face her sister sleeping next to her. Yuri stood up, walking to the door. She saw the door open and a young danced in. "Huh? Wait! Don't get out of bed, you aren't well enough." he helped her back under the covers. "Here, eat this." he held out a bowl of soup. He smiled at her as she took the bowl and a spoonful and placed it in her mouth. She felt herself well tears as she felt the warm travel her body. The same warmth her father gave her.
"Why are you crying?" he asked, his face showing concern as he took the bowl away from her, placing it on the tray. "Did it taste gross?"
Yuri shook her head, clutching the spoon tightly. "It's... very warm..."
He smiled. "You're crying because it's warm? You're weird!"
"It reminds me of my father, that's all..." Yuri told him.
He reached over, rubbing the tears away with his soft sleeve. "My name is Tae-Yeon. I'm Hak's little brother." he revealed, smiling up at her.
Yuri smiled. She saw her sister get up. "Look, this is Tae-Yeon, Hak's little brother."
Yona smiled kindly, helping herself to some soup.
"Are you 2 friends of Hak's?" he asked, cutesy and happy.
"Probably..." they replied after a while.
"Probably friends?" 2 people yelled, swinging a door open.
Yuri and Yona jumped. Yuri heard her heart pounding and nothing else.
He lunged at them. Looking at Yona, he whispered. "Your name is Lena. You're a castle court lady in training. While you're hear, I'll treat you like a court lady as well. Alright?"
Yona let out a muffled, "Alright."
He turned to Yuri. "You're Rena. You're a court lady in training, etc etc. Got it?" he hissed.
Yuri nodded.
She didn't look up until Tae-Yeon asked, "Lena, Rena. What's my brother like in the castle? I don't know much about him because he became a general when I was 3."
"Hak at the castle... Well, he's rude." Yona began, thinking. "No... insensitive? Ummm... has a bad attitude. Oh! And not cute at all."
"But he is strong." Yuri reasoned. Trying to think of another compliment. "Trustworthy?" Yuri tapped her head. "Yea... that's about it."
Yuri heard laughter. she turned to see her sister and Hak talking. she felt herself smile, a real smile, and laugh.
Yuri was sitting in Tae-Yeon's place. She sat there, wondering what was going to happen. She had heard of the river drying up but... this was scary... how could this happen???
She walked to her sister, who was by the river. She ran over when she saw them. Hak was writing on the ground but Yona was talking to Tae-Yeon.
"It's the elder! Elder Mundok has returned!" someone yelled.
Yuri felt herself gain hope. 'Mundok...'
