~Amelia~
As I leaned on Levi for support, I could sense his discomfort from the grimace on his face. Despite his apparent disdain for our closeness, his guilt for injuring me seemed to outweigh his reluctance as he continued to let me hold onto him. His grip on my arm tightened when I stumbled on the uneven floorboard.
"We really don't need to go to the infirmary. I'll be fine in a little while," I pleaded, though my yelp of pain didn't help my case. Outside the Walls, I had survived much worse than this, and I was sure I'd recover quickly with a bit of rest.
Levi rolled his eyes at my protests. "I'm sure you would, but everyone saw me hurt you, and it would look bad if I didn't get you treated. Besides, I'd rather not have to carry you back to the dungeons. If you're going to be following me around, I'd much prefer you be able to keep up." His cold demeanour caught me off guard. No one had ever spoken to me that way before, but I reminded myself this was just how he was. If we were to spend more time together, I'd have to get used to it.
"Fine, you do have a point," I admitted, sinking more into him for stability. I noticed his begrudging grip shift as he wrapped an arm around my upper back, providing me warmth and more support. Strangely enough, it helped me focus on something other than the pain.
Upon arriving at the infirmary, Levi quickly drew his hands away to push open the door. Inside, I spotted a nice-looking man in a lab coat tending to a bump on another soldier's head. He looked up as we entered, greeting us with a warm smile before instructing us to have a seat until he was finished with his current patient.
After a few minutes, the soldier was attended to, received an ice pack, and prepared to leave. The doctor then turned his attention to us. "So, Corporal, what exactly happened here?" he asked, scanning over me to assess my injury.
"Sparring injury," Levi replied vaguely, as usual.
"Right. Did you take your frustration out on one of the cadets again?" the doctor chuckled, looking at me. "Could you tell me where you got injured?" he asked softly. I nodded, feeling the weight of the moment.
"It's an old injury," I explained, hoping to clarify my situation. "I had a misunderstanding with a wolf a year or so ago. I think the wound may not have healed properly, and the kick from Levi may have disturbed some scar tissue, causing minor bleeding under the skin, judging by the colour."
The doctor raised an eyebrow, a look of intrigue on his face. "Interesting. I see you have a bit of medical knowledge yourself." He picked up a notepad, scribbling down what I'd said.
"Just a little," I responded, slightly nervous about how much I had revealed. It might seem suspicious for someone to know so much about lacerations. "I used to have an interest in medicine," I added vaguely.
He nodded, smiling reassuringly at me, and motioned for me to sit on one of the infirmary beds. "Could you lift your shirt for me? Just enough so I can have a look at your injury."
"Of course." I was more than happy to sit down and escape having to stand any longer.
As I pulled up my shirt, I revealed a sizeable purple bruise forming just below my ribcage. The doctor's expression turned grave with concern. "Can I touch it? Just to give me a better idea of the internal bleeding," he asked gently. I nodded, bracing myself for the pain that his touch would bring.
"Ah!" I called out as soon as he made contact.
"Sorry, I'll try to be more gentle," he apologised, altering his approach for his next pokes, which were much softer.
After examining me more thoroughly, the doctor stepped back and sighed, signalling his assessment was over. Eager to feel less exposed, I pulled my shirt back over the bruise. "Corporal, you really should learn to control your strength around the cadets. I don't want to fill out any more extra paperwork because of you," he huffed at Levi. I couldn't help but wonder just how many cadets he had injured during their training sessions. No wonder they were all so relieved when he chose me as his sparring partner.
