Chapter Three: She's Out
1 Month Later
The door swung open.
"Hey," Cassie glanced at Samantha, who was clearly out of breath. "Welcome home."
"Sorry for making you wait," apologized Samantha as she kicked off her worn-out converses. "I stayed at the library longer than I planned to."
Cassie placed a frozen pizza on the small table. "Finals are coming?" She dumped a slice of it on Samantha's plate.
"Yup," Samantha chewed on the pizza tentatively. "I'm worried about it."
"You'll do fine," Cassie assured her. "You study a lot even when there aren't exams."
Samantha sighed dramatically. "Why would I be sad to have the chance to do something I love?"
"That's my point."
Comfortable silence lingered between the two girls who were eating dinner.
"I can't believe we are now talking to each other like civilians," Samantha said excitedly. "No offense," she quickly added. "I mean, who knew?"
"Yeah," Cassie agreed. "Sam?" She suddenly asked.
"Uh-huh?"
"I just wanna thank you for putting up with me," the redhead admitted. "I was terrible at first. I still regret what I did."
Samantha dismissed Cassie's comment with a wave of her hand. "Hating someone is tiring. And I just don't have the patience for such things." She then gestured the pizza box. "I don't mind it if my whole life is devoted to food."
"Not only that, because of me, you even work on Sundays..."
"Nope!" Samantha shot her a glare. "That is none of your business."
Cassie shrugged."Whatever you say." She then smiled, a smile that hid a teensy bit of wistfulness. "Anyway, thanks."
"Me too," answered Samantha. "You listened to my rants even when you could just tell me to shut up." Cassie giggled, her red curls bouncing on her shoulders.
"You take a bath while I clear the table and set the sofa ready," Cassie said. She gathered the cutlery together.
"Enjoy my fluffy bed!" Samantha exclaimed as she shut the bathroom door.
Washing the plates, Cassie smiled once more to herself. The difference from the previous one she showed Samantha was that this smile was more bitter.

Ring ring ring riiiiiiiiiiing...
Samantha turned around and ended up smashing her face into the couch.
Ring ring rin---
"Fine!" She yelled in frustration at the alarm clock installed in her phone. "I'll wake up."
Glancing at the clock on the wall, Samantha knew that it was half past nine in the morning already.
Loaves of bread lied on the wooden table in front of Samantha.
Samantha grabbed them and brought them to her nose. She sniffed hard and completely lost herself to the fresh baked intoxicating scent.
Her eyes flicked to the bedroom (it wasn't hers anymore, since Cassie and she took turns using the bed) and grinned. Cassie must had woken up earlier and bought the bread downtown.
"Cassie?" Samantha called. There was no response. "Cassie?"
"Strange," she muttered. "Maybe she's in the room."
Samantha opened the bedroom door.
The bed was neatly made and the items were all in their original spots. But Samantha couldn't find Cassie.
"Cassie, don't tell me you are hiding under the bed!" She knelt down to only face boxes of clothes, not a pale-skinned girl with big green eyes and flaming red hair.
Samantha exited the room then searched every single corner of her home. Yet, there was still no trace of Cassie.
Don't fret, Samantha spoke to herself, ignoring the growing fear in her mind. There's a big possibility that Cassie's buying groceries too.
Yeah, right. Samantha typed in Cassie's phone number. Calling her isn't a bad idea either.
What Samantha heard next was not Cassie's chirpy voice, but the familiar Lana Del Rey ringtone which belonged to Cassie.
Don't make me sad
Don't make me cry
Sometimes love is not enough
And the road gets tough
I don't know why
Samantha was sure that it came from the bathroom.
Keep making me laugh,
Let's go get high
The road is long, we carry on
Try to have fun in the meantime
She was right. Cassie's blue cell phone was half-covered by the towel surrounding the sink.
Choose your last word
This is the last time
Cause' you and I
The song sounded incredibly depressing to Samantha's ears so she pressed the red button.
Samantha felt that something was stuck on the back of Cassie's phone.
Samantha,
Thanks for everything. Bye.
Cassie
Samantha froze for a moment. Then she read the note attached for a second time. And a third time.
"She left?" She exclaimed in disbelief. "What the hell!"
She paced around the room nervously. "How come?" Samantha frowned. "Why didn't she tell me face-to-face?"
The door bell rang.
Samantha rushed to the front door. It was definitely Cassie, right?
She opened the door.
A/N: Cassie's phone ringtone is Born To Die by Lana Del Rey. Song attached on side/above. Personally I love it.
Actually I hate this chapter :( It's just so...boring. Ughhhhhhhhh I'll understand if you hate it cuz I do.
