Chapter 9 (part 2)

Michael's p.o.v.

"You're a real dick, you know that?" Calum told me as we were walking out of lunch.

"I don't know what you're talking about." I smirked devilishly at myself.

"Oh, give it a rest," Calum sighed, "Why the hell would you tell Steven to ask Bethany out when you know Luke likes her?"

"I did that because Bethany and Steven obviously have a thing. After all, Bethany could have said no." I told him.

"She was completely peer pressured, everyone was staring at her." Calum scoffed.

"Not my problem, she can break up with him if she wants."

Calum stomped off shaking his head.

I couldn't care less who was mad, I got what I wanted.

And I got what I thought Annie wanted, which, for some reason, was kinda important.

Later that day when I had gotten home from school Annie barged into my room, like she normally does, and she didn't seem too happy.

After just staring at me with her arms crossed for what felt like an hour she finally said something, "Why would you do it?"

"What?" I furrowed my eyebrows at her.

"I said why would you do it." She said it through gritted teeth this time and I felt my fists clench.

My heart started beating rapidly, this is not what I expected.

I expected her to be happy, not mad.

"I thought this was what you wanted!" I snapped and started breathing heavy, "I did this for you!!"

"You hurt two of my best friends for me? Aw how sweet." She rolled her eyes.

"You told me you didn't want them together, and I prevented that from happening!" I said, my voice getting unnaturally high in frustration.

"I didn't ask you to do anything, Michael. And honestly I think I remember telling you that you don't need to do anything." Annie told me.

"Why the hell are you even here?" I peered at her, "If you're mad then just leave."

"Gladly." She began to walk out of my room and I felt horrible.

I actually did this so she would be happy.

I did this because she seemed so upset about Luke and Bethany and now she's the maddest at me.

I really care about her and she doesn't care about anything that I do. All she does is yell at me and make fun of me.

"I hate you!!" I shouted out of spite, just to get some sort of reaction out of her.

She looked back at me, shocked, her eyes getting watery.

She gulped and then stomped the rest of the way out of my house.

It hit me just then that I had just lost every single one of my real friends.

All I have left is Steven and Max and that's not even real friendship.

Calum hates me.

Luke definitely hates me.

Ashton already hates me.

Bethany most likely wants to kill me.

Cate probably hates me.

And Annie..

I don't even want to think about her.

I actually have no one.

Calum's p.o.v.

"What'd he say?" I asked Annie when she came out of Michael's house.

She completely ignored me and just walked away.

"Hey!" I called after her. I ran up to her and stood in front of her, "What happened?" I noticed how hurt she seemed and I was dying to know what had happened.

"Just leave me alone Calum." She told me in a soft whisper and walked away.

I wonder what Michael did this time.

As I was walking back to my house I saw Cate sitting outside on her porch, reading.

My heart immediately starting pounding and what had happened this morning crept back into my mind.

"Hey Cate, can we talk?" I walked up to her and her head shot up from her book and she sighed when she realized it was me.

She stood up and began to walk back into her house.

"Cate, please!"

"Leave me alone! I don't know why that's so hard for you, considering you do a pretty good job of it during school."

"Cate it was stupid, I wasn't even thinking, I--"

"Go away," she whined, "I don't care about what you did. Your friends are right, I shouldn't talk to you."

"They aren't my friends, you're my friend." I pleaded.

"No, you made it clear that I'm not." She shook her head and began to close her house door until I stopped it.

"Cate, we're best friends. We've been best friends for years."

"Yeah, and you ruined that." She slammed the door.
