5 years later
"That's enough for today, Christine. You have improved very much in the last few months."
"Thankyou, Monsieur." I reply and walk out of our secret room. I have just finished another vocal lesson with my teacher whose name I still don't know, after 5 years. I know he is only a man, but somehow he makes me feel different than anyone else i've ever known. I think I might love him. Is it possible to love someone whom you have never seen? I am interrupted from my thoughts when I bump into a strong male figure. I immediately start apologizing and look up to see who i've run into.
"Christine? Little Lotte, is that you?" the young man asks, bewildered.
"Raoul! Oh, I can't believe it's you! What in the world are you doing her?" I exclaim as he embraces me.
"I am the new patron of the Opera Populaire, are you a performer here?"
"Yes, i'm a ballet rat."
"rat?" he questions and gives off a chuckle.
"It's Carlotta's nickname for us ballet dancers, I guess it just stuck. I'm assuming you've already met the diva of 5 years?"
"Yes, she seems like quite a handful."
Raoul and I then decide to catch up over dinner that night. I hope my angel isn't angry, I don't recall scheduling a vocal lesson for tonight, so I should be okay. The rest of the day during practice, I keep getting lost in thought and messing up the routine. Madame Giry instructs me to go and rest. She thinks sleep will help...doubt it. I just have too much on my mind right now, my head is spinning. Still, I do as I am told and lie down in one of the dressing rooms for a while, since I don't feel like walking all the way to my room. After about an hour of attempting to rest, I decide it's no use, and put on my white lace robe. Suddenly, the candles in my room blow out and I am left in complete darkness until the edges of the mirror start to glow. I then hear a voice...Insolent boy, this slave of fashion, basking in your glory
Ignorant fool, this brave young suitor, sharing in my triumphOh no, I should've known my angel wouldn't want me going out with Raoul. My only hope of calming him is begging forgiveness in song, so that's exactly what I do.
Angel I hear you, speak, I listen
Stay by my side, guide me
Angel my soul was weak, forgive me
Enter at last, MasterHis voice immediately switches from angry to compassionate.
Flattering child you shall know me
See why in shadow I hide
Look at your face in the mirror
I am there insideAngel of music, Guide and Guardian
Grant to me your glory
Angel of music, hide no longer
Secret and Strange AngelI hear Raoul banging on the door and yelling for me, but I am in a trance by my Angel in the flesh, he's actually here! I've dreamed of this day so many times! Right now, my Angel is all that matters
I am your Angel of Music, Come to me Angel of Music
I am your Angel of Music, Come to me Angel of MusicI take his hand and he leads through the mirror into various passageways and over a lake, while we sang the new song he's been teaching me. I haven't been able to reach the high note at the end, but somehow, seeing him motivated me and I actually did it! I am shocked at how much power he has over me. It's frightening and exciting at the same time!
I have brought you, to the seat of sweet music's throne, to a place where all must pay homage to music, music...You have come here, for one purpose and one alone, since the moment I first heard you sing, I have needed you with me to serve me to sing, for my music, my music...
Night time sharpens
Heightens each sensation
Darkness stirs and wakes
Imagination
Silently the senses
Abandon their defensesSlowly, gently
Night unfurls its splendor
Grasp it, sense it
Tremulous and tender
Turn your face away
From the garish light of day.
Turn your thoughts away
From cold, unfeeling light,
And listen to the music of the night.
