Friday afternoons at Westlake college were alive with excitement. Only two more hours until the weekend has officially started. The halls are buzzing with talks of what everyone is getting up to at the weekend. A few talked of parties on the beach or a bbq by the lake. All I know is that everyone was looking forward to the weekend except me. I wasn’t attending any beach parties tomorrow night like every other 17 year old in Westlake Falls.. oh no, I was going out for a meal with my mom so she could introduce me to the man she has been seeing. Great! Just what every teenager wants to do on a Saturday night!  I groan and lean my head against the cool metal of my locker.

 “Is there any particular reason your headbutting your locker Marley?” My best friend Jessica asks. I turn and look at her, brushing some of my long blonde hair out of my eyes.

 “I’m not headbutting it, I’m disparing in it.” I huff at her.

 “Um.. Disparing?... What?” she says confused.

 “My weekend is ruined Jess! Why couldn’t my mom bring him round for lunch through the week, why does it have to be the weekend.... MY WEEKEND!! I had a date with Jake Riley.... JAKE FUCKING RILEY, JESS!! Who cancels a date with Jake, Huh? Nobody, thats who.. except for me cos I’m a LOSER!” I shout at her.

 “Erm Marley...” 

“Actually I’m not the loser, my mom is, well I hope she’s happy because I’m gonna make her wish she’d never made me come on this stupid meal.”

 “Marley” Jess is shaking my arm but I’m on a roll.

 “Do you know how long I’ve waited for Jake to ask me out Jess... huh? 3 damn months and now all that’s gone to shit because as soon as I finally get a date my mom has demanded I meet her boyfriend or whatever he is, on the same night, even though she knew I had this date planned. Can you believe her!” I fume.

 “MARLEY!!” Jess shouts loud enough that I think my ears are bleeding.

 “Jesus Christ Jess, what the hell?” I ask rubbing my poor ears. 

“Sorry chick but you just wouldn’t shut up, first of all Jake Riley is an arrogant asshole and only wants one thing. Your better off staying away from him and secondly the bell went like five minutes ago.” I looked around and sure enough the hall was deserted. 

“Shit” I shut my locker and make my way to my last class of the day, calculus. Oh my god, kill me now! I let out a groan. 

“What now” Jess asks rolling her eyes. 

“I’ve got calculus”

“Awwww poor baby. Well suck it up, stop being so dramatic and get your cranky ole ass to calculus. I’ll call you later and we’ll make plans. Have fun. Later’s Marley munchkin” she smiles and waves then heads off down the hall. 

“Laters Jess” I roll my eyes at the nickname she gave me in kindergarten and run down the hall to my class.
