I hope everyone is enjoying the story so far!

The party had been going well, we had settled into our spots around the fire as me and Jake all but entered into our own little bubble, occasionally checking in on Alice to make sure she was okay.

It wasn't until one of the girls had suggested we go inside for drinks and a dance that things started to go sideways.
I'd tried to refuse, tried to say I'd preferred to stay out here and not inside, but with no obvious reason as to why I didn't have a leg to stand on as the rest of our group got up and slowly made their way over to the house.

"Come on Kathy, one drink wont kill you," Peter, another of Jakes friends said, stopping in front of me and reaching forward to grab my wrist.

I pulled it out of his grasp before he could get a good enough hold to pull me up and glared daggers at him for thinking he could touch me like that without my permission. I didn't even really know the guy, why did he feel like it was acceptable to do something like that?

He held his hands up in surrender and took a step back from us with a grin.

I looked around the group and noticed a couple people staring at us. The last thing I needed was for him to cause a scene.

I looked over to Alice for help, but she was standing up herself, readying herself to go inside with the rest of the group. Crap, looks like I'd be going back into that god awful loud and smelly house.

"Alice?" I called, eyes wide as I watched the group make their way inside the house, but she was already out of hearing range, holding a girls hand with another guys hand thrown over her shoulder

"What's wrong?" Jake asked, taking my hand in his as we started a slow walk back to the house. "Why don't you want to go in?"

"It's just... there's a lot of people in there," I explained. The excuse was lame, but in the moment I couldn't think of a single logical reason why I wouldn't want to go in there other than the fact I don't want someone bumping into my back and finding out I had wings.

"I'll be next to you the whole time," he reassured me, the green of his eyes barely visible now we'd stepped away from the fire.

He caressed my cheek with the pad of his thumb, cupping my neck with his hand as he stared down at me, and my heart rate slowed slightly.

I could do this, I could do something as normal as go to a party without anything bad happening.

"Yeah okay," I nodded looking down at my feet to hide the small bubble of panic before looking back up at him with a smile.

He grinned down at me, staring deep into my eyes and I slowly felt my heart rate increase for an entirely different reason. The way he looked at me sometimes, it made me feel like the only person in the world and it was dangerously becoming a drug I needed whenever I started to feel myself spiralling out.

I reached up on my tiptoes and pressed my lips to his, a hum leaving my throat as his soft lips parted, deepening the kiss further.
Yep, definitely a drug and definitely dangerous.

I felt his hands creep up under my coat and plant on my hips, his fingertips gripping my skin as he pulled me impossibly closer until we were practically fused together in the middle of the garden.

"What the hell are you doing to me Kathy," he groaned into my skin as he trailed kissed across my jaw and down my throat, paying extra attention to a spot just below my ear when I let out a soft whimper against my will. "I'm addicted to you," he breathed.

I knew what he meant because it was a feeling I was becoming more and more aware of myself.

His hands trailed up from my hips, his fingertips tracing the skin of my hips under my top, but it wasn't until he brushed against one of the belts tied tight around me that I froze.
