"What about this?" She Alice asked, holding up a short, bright pink dress to her front that was cinched in the waist and flared out in the skirt. It looked like it would barely cover her arse, but thanks to me being so much shorter than her I didn't doubt it would fall longer on me.
I rained in my disgust and stared at her with an are you serious look without commenting further. I was a strictly black, grey and dark green kinda girl. Only dark colours that could hide stains and took longer to look worn and old, the idea of wearing a colour so garish made my ears ring.
"Fine," she huffed as she turned back to her wardrobe and started shifting through it again.
I wasn't sure how she'd done it, but she had somehow convinced me to go to this party tonight and we were currently in her room going through her entire wardrobe because apparently she didn't see anything I owned as party attire.
I wasn't surprised, parties were the last thing on my mind when I had enough money to buy myself a new item of clothing from a random charity shop.
"What about this?" She turned back around, holding out a baby blue sequinned top which had a scoop neckline so low I wondered how she never flashed anyone in it.
My eyes must've communicated my fears because she rolled her eyes and shoved it onto her bed with move force than was required. "You'd use tape to make sure it didn't show the girls obviously."
"I still don't understand why I can't just wear this," I said, gesturing to myself. I was wearing what was basically considered my uniform; black scuffed combat boots, dark wash jeans, multiple layered of tops and jumpers and finally my coat on top. Alice had said that I could take the belts off whilst we were in here to give my wings some breathing room, but I didn't trust her brothers not to come running in here without knocking.
"Because that," she said, gesturing to the length of me. "Is not something someone should wear to any party, let alone one that could arguably consider as a first date," she argued.
I rolled my eyes and collapsed onto her bed which was overflowing with different items of clothing. I was exhausted already and all the different colour options were starting to make me feel overstimulated.
"This is not a first date," I argued. "And if he dared ever make a comment about my choice of clothing, whether I cared about his opinion or not, he'd find himself in a world of pain and he'd know it."
I felt like sometimes he antagonised me on purpose, that he liked rilling me up and getting under my skin, but I wasn't sure why. It's like when we first met, how everything I said it him to try and push him away just managed to get a laugh out of him.
"Yes yes we all know he's your golden retriever to your black cat, a true reverse grumpy sunshine trope bought to life, but you've got to give me something here K," she all but whined.
I sighed in surrender as I pushed myself back off the bed and walked over to where she stood, looking into her wardrobe and matching set of draws to see what options were left.
We truly were opposites, where I loved wearing ark colours only she loved to wear every colour of the rainbow, each shade looking perfect against her dark caramel skin.
She stared at me hopefully, waiting to see what I would find but after a few silent minutes of me just staring at the mass of fabric she sighed and placed her hands on my shoulders. "You're completely hopeless."
"Hey!" I tried to defend myself, but I didn't really have a leg to stand on because I was. "It's not easy trying to find something in here that would both fit me and hide my wings," I whispered the last word just in case someone from her family was on the other side of the closed door.
