Here's chapter 14 for you ☺️

By the time the end of the day came I was socially exhausted. I had never talked to so many people before, and had people want to talk to me back. It was a surreal experience, one that I knew I could dangerously get used to, but I had to keep a level head. If I allowed myself to relax in their company, to actually enjoy talking to them, then I'd let my guard down and my secret would be revealed.

"So how did your first day go?" Jake asked as he walked up beside me and threw his arm around my shoulders.

Whilst I was getting better at allowing people closer to me I was still completely against him touching me, especially anywhere near where my wings could be felt. I quickly shook his arm off from over my shoulder and glared up at him with my death stare. I knew it wouldn't work, it never seemed to work on this guy, but it still had the desired effect.

"Wow there girlie, no touchy... got it," he nodded as he held his hands up in surrender, a chuckle quietly slipping from his lips.

I rolled my eyes at the nickname he gave me and went back to walking out the back doors of the school. "It wasn't my first day dumbass," I muttered as I dodged a younger kid who'd tripped on his shoelace.

"I meant your first day with us," he chuckled as he continued to walk with me.

"Exhausting and not at all pleasant," I replied, tightening my grip on my shoulder straps.

"Mmmhmm," was all Jake muttered as a response as we made it through the doors at the end of the corridor.

He quietly opened one and gestured for me to go ahead of him before he too went through and followed me outside. It was chillier than it had been at lunch, the clouds covering the sun as a small breeze swept through the courtyard, and I couldn't help but inhale slightly as the wind carried Jake's scent over to me. I wasn't sure what body wash or aftershave he used, but it suited him.

"When you're finished sniffing me I have a question for you," Jake smirked as he looked down at me, blocking my escape into the school grounds as he slowly backed me towards the brick wall of the school building.

"I was not sniffing you," I defended myself, even though I very obviously was. "You just wear way too much aftershave and it was getting into my sinuses," I clarified as I looked up into his green eyes defiantly.

"Whatever you say short stuff," he laughed as he leant his head down slightly.

It was only then that I truly realised what position he had put us in. I was backed against the brick wall, the roughness of it pressing against my wings as they remained strapped down against my shoulder blades and spine.

"What did you want to ask me?" I asked, raising my eyebrows slightly in amusement. Did he really think I'd swoon and cave into him asking me out because he'd got me cornered and was looking at me like... well like he was. I knew it was common in novels and romance films for the girl to fall weak at the knees as the attractive bad boy type guy showed them any interest, but I wasn't any normal girl, and this wasn't a romance novel I was living in.

"Would you come to my game tonight?" He asked as he leant against the wall, placing his hand near my head so he could lean into me slightly.

I was not a weak girl, I do not swoon. But even I had to admit the guy smelt good, and looked good with the confident way he looked unflinchingly into my eyes.

Damn it.

Warning bells started to play in my head and before I allowed the situation to get any further I reached up and pushed forcefully against his shoulders to give me some much needed breathing space. I may have pushed slightly to hard, if the small look of shock that crossed Jake's face was anything to go by, but I couldn't think about that now,
