The chalet sat hight up in the mountains like it had been carved into the snow itself. Wooden beams, huge glass windows, smoke curling out of the chimney into a sky so pale it almost looked washed out. Everything outside was white and endless while everything inside was warm, golden, and loud in a way only a group of exhausted, competitive, overly social people could make it.
Marnie stood on the stone steps in front of it first thing in the morning, one foot still half in her ski boot, camera hanging from a strap around her neck. She was bundled in layers—an oversized cream puff jacket, black thermal leggings, and gloves she kept forgetting to put on properly. Her hair was tied up messily under a beanie that kept slipping because she refused to adjust it.
Behind her, the chalet door swung open.
Lando stepped out fully dressed for the slops already. He had a dark ski jacket on zipped up to his chin, helmet tucked under his arm, and goggles resting on top of his head like he hadn't decided yet whether he needed them. His boots crunched lightly in the snow as he walked down the steps.
"You're filming the floor again." Lando pointed out.
"I'm capturing ambience." Marnie replied seriously, camera still angled at the snow.
