The weekend didn't feel real at first.

Marnie noticed it on Saturday morning, standing barefoot in the kitchen with a cup of coffee she hadn't made, in a house that wasn't hers, surrounded by people who somehow already felt familiar.

Sunlight spilled through the windows in soft, golden strips, catching on half-cleared plates and the remnants of breakfast chaos. Someone had left music playing quietly in the background, voices drifting in and out from different rooms.

"You're up early." Adam spoke, stepping into the kitchen, already dressed, already halfway through his day.

Marnie smiled slightly. "Couldn't sleep."

"Too much noise or not enough?" Adam wondered.

Marnie paused then huffed out a quiet laugh. "I think I'm used to noise."

"Good." Adam nodded, reaching for a mug. "You'll survive here then."

It became a pattern after that. Small conversations, passing moments.

Flo dragged her out for a walk mid-morning, talking the entire time, jumping through topics so quickly Marnie barely had time to keep up but somehow never felt left behind. Oliver joined them hallway through, immediately disagreeing with something just to start an argument, which turned into laughter within minutes.
