TWENTY-ONE:
homecoming.
SIX MONTHS LATER. . .
KALI LAID ON the hospital bed gripping the railings and pushing like her life depended on it. the past few months had been filled with doctors appointments and visits of her parents, a few from rafe sprinkled in here and there.
kali wasn't worried about anything that had come before in this moment, she was worried about safely delivering this baby. the months of her being pregnant were filled with school work and reading about how to be a "good mother". her pregnancy was relatively easy because she wasn't stressed out as much as she knew she would be at home.
that was something kali was grateful for when her parents sent her away. she was glad they separated her knowing how stubborn kali was when it came to her friends. kali would've lost the baby to her stress and she knew it would've been her fault. through all the hurt she went through for months, she finally realized in this moment that is she didn't get sent away, she would've lost this baby.
as kali pushed she breathed heavily and put all her strength into pushing. "you're doing so good honey just one more big push" the nurse told kali and she shook her head "i can't..i really can't.." she sobbed and gasped. the midwife looked to her "kali honey you've gotta push this baby out or you both aren't gonna make it. i'm right here with you." she said making kali nod and take a deep breath.
this push was different, kali put all her strength she had into pushing and cries could be heard causing her to stop and gasp out. "congratulations it's a baby girl" the nurse said handing kali her baby. she sobbed as she held the baby in her arms. at the age of seventeen she's a mother and kali couldn't believe it.
in this moment she wanted to see rafe, to tell him that she did it, she delivered a baby all on her own. kali didn't know what she was going to name her daughter but she just knew and promised that whatever she did from here on out, would be for her. the midwife wiped kali's forehead and smiled "i knew you could do it" she spoke making kali smile.
the nurse brought over the birth certificate "okay you can sign this whenever you're ready i just need to know baby girls name" she says and kali looks over to her "ryliee cameron" she says with a smile before looking to the sleeping baby in her arms.
━━━
kali rocked the crying baby in her room looking like she hadn't slept in days. the truth was, she hadn't. kali had been so scared that ryliee would stop breathing in her sleep so she would watch her sleep until her eyes couldn't stay open. the people decided moved her into her own room because she had a baby and wanted her to have enough space.
ryliee cried loudly and kali groaned "ryliee please! i don't know what you want me to do!" she said to the screaming baby. kali sat down and put the babies binky in her mouth causing the crying to stop. kali sighed and rocked her while patting her back "thank god" she said and a knock on her door made her look up. kali stood up and opened the door to see rafe.
