The pain hurt. I woke up in the school infirmary, a thick bandage on my stomach and a very large ache pounding through my head. My mind was blank. I couldn't remember anything that had happened after Danes beating. I squinted into the fluorescent light, trying to remember how I got here. And who had brought me.
As I questioned it a shuffling sound broke my thoughts. Ms. Hildy, the school nurse, emerged from behind the curtain holding pain killers and an ice pack in her hands. She smiled when she saw I was up.
"Oh good your'e awake!" She said nicely, while pouring two small pills into her hand and handing them to me. I took them gratefully wincing at the pain in my stomach when I had to sit up.
"Ms. Hildy, how exactly did I get here?" She looked at my question with surprise, frowning slightly in thought.
"That one boy carried you in, what was his name... Calin?" She chewed her bottom lip as she mulled it over in her head. She finally shrugged, giving up finding her memory. "All I know is he was an attractive fellow. Those bright gray eyes. He said you fell off your friends motor bike in the parking lot," She looked at me pointedly, her suspicion showing clearly on her face. "Is that true?" I avoided answering her question still stuck on one fact. Gray eyes...
Collin carried me to the infirmary?! The shock hit my chest like ice, preventing my ability to breath. She interrupted my thoughts, clearly getting irritated with my lack of response. But I pictured Collin, his strong arms carrying me as they flexed- and well...
"Yes ma'am, it is true." I flashed her a fake smile and watched her eyes soften, though still suspicious. "Can I please go now?" I asked politely, my eyelids dropping from exhaustion. She took one last accusing look at me and sighed defeatedly, while shuffling papers on her desk.
"Fine, come back if you have any persisting headaches." I nodded and practically ran out the door, almost crashing head first into a person leaning against the wall outside the door.
"Hey I'm sorry man, I didn't see-" shock. It ran through me. Because standing there, waiting for me outside the infirmary and currently holding me up so I wouldn't fall was Collin Wayworth. And he was staring intently right back at me.
