I sat on the floor beside Collin cautiously, gently pulling his hands away from his eyes. He tried to resist, seemingly embarassed by his tears and swiping angrily at them to hide them. But I refused to let him, kissing his cheeks lightly and drying his tears. He then slouched, whimpering vulnerably and looking at the ground. Carefully I pulled him into my chest, allowing him to rest his head in the crook of my shoulder.
"I know how you feel." I whispered soothingly, stroking his messy hair. His eyes glanced up, searching for truth in my statement. once they found it they softened, understanding filling their depths.
"I'm sorry." He said quietly, his voice fuzzy and muddled.
But he wasn't apologizing for his tears.
He apologizing because he knew we had similar heartaches, similar struggles.
He was crying because he understood.

I grinned at Collin, the mustard smeared across his lips as he messily ate his burger. I laughed slightly at his puffed-up cheeks, his enjoyment of the meaty snack adorably clear on his face.
"What?" He questioned, a confused look on his face. But I just shook my head, snickering to myself before lowering my gaze and taking a bite of my own burger.
After our emotional session it was about five in the afternoon. And Collin decided that the best thing to do after I cried in his arms (he exaggerated the story a little) was to get a greasy burger.
And who was I to argue?
So that is where we currently were. Scarfing down fast food at O' Valleys, a popular burger joint situated on the outskirts of town. I smiled across the table at him, noticing him finally swallow his last bite with a satisfied sigh. He grinned back at me, winking in my direction.
"I wish I could hold your hand." He said wistfully, making me smile sadly in response.
I hated that he wanted to keep us a secret.
"I wish you could too." He nodded gently, leaning back in his seat. A comfortable silence settled over us, allowing me the time to think.
And something was bothering me.
"Hey Collin..." I started, slowly putting down my burger so I could talk. He nodded in acknowlegement, leaning forward to listen. "When your dad-" He flinched but I kept talking, pretending not to notice.
"-was talking he asked you to tell your friend to go see him. Was he talking about me? Because if he was I'll go, I don't want you to get hurt and-"
"No." He said harshly, slamming his hand down on the table and making me jump. Noticing my fear he quieted his voice, softening his face. "You can never meet my father again. Ever." He said sternly, making me curious. I raised my eyebrow, wordlessly telling him to elaborate. He stared at my pleading face, sighing heavily when he finally gave up.
"My father is a very dangerous man." He said, his eyes hard and pleading. "He wasn't talking about you." He said finally, carefully choosing his words. "And you cannot see him again." He repeated, the worry showing in his face.
"But why?" I whispered, not to resist, but because I was still curious.
"I can't tell you anything else." He said, finality in his tone.
"But-"
"So dessert?" He asked quickly, trying to drop the subject. I stared at him for a second, contemplating whether to let it go, before I finally relented. I sighed and nodded, looking down at the menu and letting the subject drop.
Though I did notice his subtle exhale of relief when he thought I wasn't looking.

After we were finished we walked out to Collins car, brushing our hands together lightly as we walked as close as we could without looking too cozy. I was smiling at him, scanning his handsome features, when a shocked look went across his face. Suddenly he grabbed my hand, dragging me around to the opposite side of his truck and pulling me downwards into a squatting position.
"Ok what the hell?" I hissed causing him to shush me. He raised his head over the hood, peeking at whatever was on the other side, before squatting back down, the same shocked look on his face.
"Seriously!" I practically yelled, frustration bubbling in my stomach. "What the-" My words were interrupted when a hand clamped over my mouth, Collin glancing around like someone heard. And then he whispered four words I never thought I would hear in the same sentence.
"Dane and Billy, together."
