Chapter Eighteen: Who knew such a small girl could run that fast

I sat there still not even thinking of shutting my eyes. Alex, and Tate's parents were still here and sleeping on these uncomfortable chairs. When suddenly Alex moved around and looked at me with tired eyes.

"Don't you think you should get some sleep princess?" he suggested.

"I can't. What if Tate wakes up. Then I'll be asleep. I have to wait." I said. He leaned back on the chair giving up. With that a nurse came through the doors and called for any of Tate's relatives. I immediately shot up and ran towards her. Tate's parents soon followed behind me.

"Your son is doing fine. He's a real fighter. A car hitting him at the speed should have killed him but luckily he fought through the surgery. He's awake for the most part and he's in room 206." once the words slipped out of her mouth I started to run towards the elevator and up to the second floor. Searching for 206 and finally finding it. I looked through the glass and Tate was sitting there just staring at the TV. Tears built up in my eyes as I looked at his cut face. I ran into the room and over towards him and hugged him.

"You're okay." I cried, with tears of joy. He put his arm around me as I cried into his chest.

"Charlie I'd hate to break up this amazing hug you're giving me but remember I was just hit by a car." he giggled slightly.

"Oh sorry." I back up and sat in a chair next to his bed.

"It's four in the morning. What are you still doing here?" he asked.

"I would never leave you. I promised." I said. He smiled at me and I grabbed his hand. With that I heard someone cough in the doorway. I turned my head and Alex stood there. Then Calum and Shannon burst in. Both of them out of breathe.

"Who knew such a small girl could run that fast." Calum said between breaths.

"Yeah I kind of just bolted for it." I said.

"Oh thank god my baby is okay." Tate's mum came and kissed him on the head a bunch of times.

"Mum I'm fine really." he said, trying to get her to stop. I turned my head and saw Alex awkwardly standing there. I waved him over for him to sit next to me.

We all kept talking about how worried we were and how happy we were that he was okay. But something seemed off with Alex but right now my attention had to be on Tate.

Eventually Tate made everyone leave so they could all get a good night sleep but I of course refused to leave him alone. His parents wanted to stay too but they weren't as stubborn as me.

"You should really go home Charlie. You haven't slept at all." he said.

"Too bad Hood, I'm staying and there's nothing you can do about it." I crossed me arms. He just sighed knowing I would never give in. After a while my eyes started to close and I couldn't keep my head held up.

"Charlie." Tate whispered.

"What? I'm awake!" My eyes shot open.

"Come here there's plenty of room on this bed for you." He said.

"No I might hurt you." I tried to protest.

"If you're going to stay here then at least you're gonna sleep in a bed." he said. I stood up and climbed into next to him in the bed, trying not hurt him. After a little while I started to drift off.

"It's okay Charlie. Go to sleep." he kissed the top of my head and I soon was in a deep sleep.

The next morning I woke up in the same position I was from the night before. Tate was still sleeping next to me as I was wrapped up into his arms. I slowly sat up and rubbed my eyes and yawned. When I looked up I saw tired Alex standing there.

"Hey" I whispered to him. Getting out of the bed. I walked over to him and hugged him.

"You slept there last night?" He said posting to the bed.

"Yeah. I was gonna sleep on the chair but Tate wanted me to be comfortable" I said

"Oh..." He trailed off.

"What are you doing here so early?" I asked him. He didn't make eye contact with me and stared still at the bed.

"Just wanted to see how you and him were doing. I can see now that you're fine." He said.

"Are you okay? You seem upset about something." I questioned

"Yeah I'm fine. Listen you should get home. I'll stay here with Tate." He said.

"You sure?" I said.

"Yeah don't worry about it." He said, finally looking down at me.

"Thanks you." I said kissing him one more time and walking out. Something was definitely wrong with Alex though. He was suddenly acting very secluded and I was sure going to find out why.

I got home and my house was dead silent. I went and sat in the couch and watched tv for a while. Until I hear thump from next room and a yelp that sounded like my mum. I sprung up and ran to my parents room.

"What happened?" I yelled. I looked around and I saw my mum laughing so much tears ran down her face.

"Ow." I heard someone groan and realized my dad was on the ground. I immediately started laughing at the girlish sound he made before.

"I'm glad you two found it amusing." He said, getting back up on the bed.

"Oh I'm sorry. Are you alright Lukey?" My mum said in a tone like you would talk to a child. As I still tried to contain my laughter.

"You two are to much a like." He said.

"I can't complain. If I took after you more, I think I would have a problem staying in my bed." I giggled.

"Don't worry you got some of my genes." He said. I sat on the bed facing them.

"How's Tate?" My mum asked.

"He's okay. Alex is with him now" I said.

"Well that's good that he's not alone." My mum said.

"And how are you and Noah or Paisley feeling?" I asked.

"He or she is probably having the best time. Me not as much but I carried you for nine months and you were like an atomic war in my stomach so compared to that it's like a walk in the park." She laughed.

"Well it wouldn't be like a war if you would have fed me normal good and not pickles every other hour." I said.

"Wow you could literally be the Tessie form the past, Charlotte" my dad said.  Me and mum just looked at each other.

"I don't see it." we said in unison.

"Well I'm gonna sleep for how ever long I can. Good bye my crazy parents." I said walking out of the room. I walked into my room and plopped onto my bed and almost immediately felt tired. Life has been crazy lately but I'm glad I can just lay down and get away from it all.
