AJ wasted no time in turning around and booking it to the park next to the sidewalk she was walking down. It wasn't big, just a playscape and a few trees and benches, but still a park nonetheless. She heard the sound of quick footsteps in the distance, so she knew he couldn't have been far behind. Plus, this kid ran track from Freshman to Junior year. Oh jeez, what the hell was she thinking?
She instantly went for the playscape, and climbed the stairs to the top of it so she could see everything from there. She scanned the park, frowning when she didn't see him. He wasn't at his car, not anywhere near the path she had ran. He had literally disappeared. Some part of her knew him better, though, and that he'd pop out of nowhere and scare the shit out of her. She prepared herself, her fists clenched and ready to punch someone if need be.
Her cautions were correct, although her preparations for attack weren't the best.
After a few minutes of silence, she heard something behind her and quickly turned, her eyes widening when she saw him standing there, casually leaned on the bars of the playscape. His ankles and his arms were crossed, and he looked as if he'd been standing there for a while.
"What the fuck, when did you get there?" she exclaimed, stepping away from him. Although, there wasn't much space to go at the top of the playscape.
"A while ago. I've been here for ages, where have you been?" he said, obviously lying. She knew better. He had sneakily and somehow quietly climbed up the slide and made it look like he'd been there the whole time with his relaxed posture.
She didn't answer him, though, instead she was thinking of escape routes. He was blocking the easy way out; the slide, and the only way was for her to either take the steps or the loopy pole. She figured the pole was closer and discreetly took a step towards it, crossing her arms.
"Liar. You probably ran up the slide." she accused. She took her moment when he closed his eyes, smiled, and shrugged his shoulders to dodge for the pole, but he was one step ahead of her. He seemed to always be a step ahead of her. Just before she could wrap a leg around it and slide down, his arm wrapped around her waist and easily yanked her back to his chest as if she weighed nothing. Which was completely opposite the truth.
"As much as I would've loved to see you slide down that pole, I realized you failed to mention what the prize was if I caught you." He mumbled in a low voice from behind her, his breath tickling the shell of her ear. A series of chills ran through her body, and let me tell you, it wasn't from the September breeze.
"That's because there isn't one." she said stubbornly.
She could practically see him shaking his head in fake shame through the eyes on the back of her head. Giovanni tsked and laid his palms flat against her stomach. "How unprofessional of you. I guess you owe me one. Or maybe two. Possibly three?"
The devil on her right shoulder wanted to stay there and flirt until she was blue in the face. It's not wrong, she tried to convince herself. On the other hand, the angel on her left shoulder wanted her to elbow him in the stomach and run from the somewhat steamy situation. Even the good in her was bad.
If it was Wes, she probably would have just gotten in the car and let him bring her home. They wouldn't have even gotten to the point her and Gio did because she wasn't as comfortable with Wes as she was with Gio, but if it somehow did, she would've been shrinking away in disgust.
