22: Final Goodbye

The devil trio halted near a door. Standing at the foot of the basement, it was jagged with peeling paint and splinters. The screws of the rusty handle were knocked out on the floor, leaving the rest hanging awkwardly.

"The basement of the other tower is behind that door" Badri said, "Once you climb down the stairs, you'll find your bhaiya there"

Turning towards the duo the last time, Khushi bent her hear and said, "Thank you"

"Mention not!" Budh shook his hand, "It was our duty to bring you here, heehee"

"So Time Traveller, will you be able to go on your own now?" Badri teased, "We won't be around if the dark scares you!"

"I won't let it scare me" Khushi smiled. Turning towards the door, she climbed the last few steps and held the hanging handle.

"Uh, Time Traveller?" Budh called.

She turned back.

The duo continued gazing at her.

"What happened?"

"Will you remember us?"

Khushi felt surprised. She looked at the shorter boy who asked, glancing with hopeful, bright eyes that threw a cheerful colouring to the blank space of the underground.

Thinking for a while, she replied,

"I will"

The duo looked at each other with wide eyes, then at her with wondrous smiles. She waved her hand, bidding goodbye.

They waved even harder.

"Sayonara friend!" Budh jumped up and down, "We'll miss you!"

"Sayonara friend!" Badri yelled, "Don't get lost again!"

Khushi waved back. She stood in the dark for some time hidden away from their view, watching the younger versions return back.
