Chapter 24
Dark Discussions
Abaddon was resting along the arch window a stern look rested upon his face. His mind was processing many things at once and therefore he did not notice Lily’s presence inches away from his.
“We need to talk” Lily said firmly.
Abaddon remained silent staring aimlessly into the abyss of the lake that lay outside. He didn’t need to be dictated by anyone, especially not a human. His hand traced along the stone ledge out of the window hinting he didn’t wish to speak or hold any kind of discussions.
Lily flicked the blonde hair out of her eye in irritation. “I’m speaking to you, don’t ignore me.”
“Leave me be” Abaddon said in a low tone of voice keeping his eyes fixed on the fire.
“And what if I don’t?” Lily said through gritted teeth as she made her way towards Abaddon while her long dressed dragged on behind her.
Abaddon let out a low dark chuckle. “I don’t think you want to find that out.” He said turning around to smirk at Lily.
Lily kept her gazed matched with his, determined not to show any signs of backing down. “You are a pathetic selfish monster, you’ve lied and betrayed me and if you think your threats and going to achieve anything then you are gravely mistaken.”
His smirk did not falter. “I can cause you so much pain and misery, leave now and you may escape it.”
“You’re just boring me now, torture me do whatever, what does it matter? I laugh how you once opened up to me complaining how lonely you were. It’s not the gods that caused this loneliness it’s you and when I’m free and I’m a soul I’ll take pity on you for every day of your existence.” Lily replied mockingly.
It was the moment she had finished her last sentence that Abaddon snapped, in seconds he had turned around from the window and launched himself in Lily’s direction only to find out in horror that he was propelled back by the mysterious bubble that surrounded Lily.
“Damn Emerald.” Abaddon muttered standing up and brushing the dirt off his robes.
“Oh dear me, it appears that your attempt to eternally torture me as failed.” Lily replied laughing.
Abaddon sighed in defeat. “What is it you want from me?”
“You know what I want, I need you to help turn back time.” Lily said making her way towards Abaddon.
“I just can’t do that.” Abaddon said turning to walk away, Lily was quick to notice and blocked the path in front of him.
“Tell me why.” Lily demanded.
“I just can’t handle the fact of being erased from history!” Abaddon answered truthfully.
“Stop being so damn selfish! Don’t you realise that even if you don’t help they will kill you anyway? You said it yourself the gods have deceived you and they will murder you in a cold blood.” Lily said her tone of voice becoming higher on every word she spoke.
Abaddon’s face crumpled with pain, the suffering was clearly visible on his face. “I just don’t want to believe it.”
It became apparent to Lily what Abaddon’s problem was. He was in denial and was trying to block out the truth that was staring him in the face, just like a human would. Instantly Lily had sympathy for him.
“Look there comes a time when we all have to make tough choices and you are by no means an exception of this, I get it nobody really wants to die to save the world but sometimes we don’t have a choice. Listen to me you either turn back time and die or you don’t try at all and you definitely die. I won’t lie to you and say that if you try to help you’ll live but I know for a fact if you choose not to then your fate is sealed.” Lily paused to catch her breath before continuing. “This is your chance to change your title of monster show the world that you are the hero.”
Abaddon shook his head in despair. “You don’t understand the gods power, this plan won’t work it’s doomed to fail!”
“This is our only hope! I can’t tell you how much I desperately need you to help me, there is only a couple of hours till the gods show up and I won’t sit back and watch while our only chance slips away.” Lily said angrily.
“I really do wish I could help you Lily but-“Abaddon was cut off.
“What so that’s it? You’re just going to give up like the coward you are? So your saying you’d rather live in a dream where you and your so called gods spare you and you all live happily ever after? Well it’s not going to happen like that.” Lily said crossing her arms.
“Yes, I’d rather live that lie. Now leave” Abaddon said in a heartless cold voice that no longer sounded like his.
Lily was blasted with the pain of a second betrayal, Tears flowed down endlessly as it gripped at her heart. “If that’s how you feel fine, I’ll just fight in your place. Where will they be when they arrive?”
A shocked expression quickly arose on Abaddon’s face, but he was quick to hide it. “They’ll be in the halls of time you will know the place when you find it.”
Lily nodded. “Nice knowing you.” she spoke bitterly before walking out the hallway.
She wasn’t a fighter, she wasn’t a warrior and she wasn’t skilled in karate, but if Abaddon refused to help her she was going to go down knowing she tried to turn back time. Lily bend down to the hem off her dress, it was made out of weak silk fabric. She tore at the dress ripping off long edges, until the dress was just above the knee making it easier for her to move about.
Lily dropped the silk fabric to the ground and stood up staring into the dark corridor in front of her. It almost felt like she was going to take part in a kamikaze attack.
She began walking down the corridors taking in every detail of their appearance looking for the hallway which Abaddon had spoken of. She didn’t know what would happen to her if she was to be destroyed by one of the gods, she just hoped Emerald would keep his side of the deal and that she would become a soul.
The hallways seemed to never end and their similar appearance was beginning to get on Lily’s nerves, until she saw a sparkly bright light at the end. She would have laughed at how ironic it would have been to ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ but she was too intrigued by it to consider thinking such a thing.
The golden plaque hung above the door gleaming in all its glory as the sign said “Halls of time” Lily knew this is where her last stand for humanity was going to take place.
